Ovarian cyclicity and uterine involution are delayed when there is uterine dysbiosis (overgrowth of pathogenic bacteria). Fertility in dairy cows may involve a mechanism through which the uterine microbiota affects ovarian cyclicity as well as the transcriptome of the endometrium within the involuting uterus.

  • The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the hormonal treatment on uterine involution in dystocia affected buffaloes. The experiment was carried out with total 33 buffaloes, out of which 27 were dystocia affected buffaloes presented at University clinic, GADVASU for the treatment which were further divided into 2 groups on the basis of treatment with prostaglandin and gonadotropin releasing hormone analogue (Group I: n=18, PGF2α on day 7 and GnRH on day 14 postpartum) or not (Group II: n=9, No treatment).

  • Endometrial histopathology was studied in 16 postpartum dairy cows. Endometrial biopsy was taken from the all experimental animals, to study the histopathological changes of the uterine endometrium. 8 cows in group I (n=8) on day 2 postpartum and were treated with an intramuscular injection of 5 mg methyl ergometrine maleate. All the cows in group I were inserted with Controlled Internal Drug Release device (CIDR) on day 45-55 postpartum intra-vaginally.

  • Endometrial histopathology was studied in 24 cows on day 2 postpartum in group I and II were treated with an intramuscular injection of 25 mg PGF2α and 50 IU oxytocin respectively. Whereas in group III cow selected at day 35-50 post-partum RFM affected cows treated with TANUVAS mineral mixture plus ovsynch protocol. Histopathology of the uterus in the RFM affected cows before treatment reveals complete loss of epithelial lining of endometrium, whereas after treatment Proliferations of epithelial lining of endometrium were evident.
