Postpartum Length of hospital stay (PLOHS) is an essential indicator of the quality of maternal and perinatal healthcare services. Identifying the factors associated with PLOHS will inform targeted interventions to reduce unnecessary hospitalisations and improve patient outcomes after childbirth. Therefore, we assessed the length of hospital stay after birth and the associated factors in Ibadan, Nigeria.

Cervical cancer is a rare malignancy in the 1st months of pregnancy. Implantation of this cancer in an episiotomy scar is a condition that is rarely reported. Implantation of adenocarcinoma in an episiotomy scar is a rare occurrence in patients with a history of cervical cancer and previous vaginal delivery near the time of diagnosis which requires extensive local excision as a primary treatment when feasible.

Pnemomediastinum is defined as the presence of aberrant air in the mediastinum, also known as mediastinal emphysema. Significant pneumomediastinum is rare, particularly in term neonates. It is usually related to the different predisposing factors such as birth injury, meconium aspiration, assisted ventilation or infectious diseases although it may occur idiopathically

According to some published studies, neuraxial analgesia may be associated with prolonged labor and an increased risk for instrumental vaginal delivery. However, its effects on episiotomy are unknown. This study aimed to examine the incidence of episiotomy with and without combined spinal–epidural analgesia (CSEA) during labor.

Cerebral venous thrombosis can be a fatal complication of the postpartum period. Pregnancy is known to be a risk factor for thromboembolism in itself. A normal spontaneous vaginal delivery was planned for a 20-year-old primigravida patient with patient-controlled epidural analgesia. Next morning, the patient complained of an occipital headache.

This study evaluates the microbial contamination rate to find the frequency and distribution of bacterial organisms among CB samplings in Vietnam. In addition, this study compares the contamination rates between two delivery methods: cesarean section and vaginal delivery. The results help create best practices to avoid a high level of contamination of CB during cord blood banking.

Torsion of uterus is a common form of maternal dystocia in bovines. Both maternal and fetal causes are attributed to the etiology of uterine torsion. The entire length of pregnant uterine horn rotates on its longitudinal axis to the left (anticlockwise) or right side (clockwise) along with uterine body, cervix and cranial vagina mostly. In severe cases of uterine torsion, there is vascular compromise to foetus resulting in death of fetus in utero.

The study was performed among patients with vaginal infections attending OG Department of SRM Hospital, Kattankulathur. A total of 72 samples were collected, 40 samples were from symptomatic population and 32 samples were collected from age matched women without any symptoms. However no single bacteria were shown to be the primary cause of vaginitis. This study concluded that there was no significant difference in study and control population. In the future, by using molecular techniques, we may better diagnose each subtype of BV, and able to tailor treatment appropriately.

Term neonates are at increased risk of infections due to undeveloped immune mechanisms, and proper neutrophil function is important for perinatal immune defence. Galectin-3, an endogenous β-galactosidebinding lectin, is emerging as an inflammatory mediator and we have previously shown that primed/activated, but not resting, adult neutrophils respond to this lectin by production of reactive oxygen species (ROS).
