Results revealed that the finished products of compost and vermicompost are free from total and fecal coliforms as well as Salmonella sp. and Shigella sp. The values of tested parameters of compost and vermicompost that produced from rice straw supplemented with cattle dung, organic P and K and fungal accelerator (treatment No. 7) were within the recommended levels of high quality products.

Fifty bororice genotypes were evaluated to estimate variability, heritability and genetic advance in yield and yield contributing characters at Directorate of Rice Research Farm, ICRISAT Campus, Patancheru, Hyderabad, during Rabi 2013-14. Analysis of variance indicated the existence of significant genotypic differences among the genotypes for the yield, its components for all the characters. High GCV and PCV values were observed for number of filled grains per panicle, number of unfilled grains per panicle, grain yield per plant.

The present investigation carried out on 25 rice genotypes during Kharif-2018 at field experimentation centre of Genetics and Plant Breeding, Naini Agricultural Institute, SHUATS, Prayagaraj to assess genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance. Analysis of variance showed highly significant genetic variability for all the 25 rice genotypes for 13 quantitative characters studied indicating that significant at 1% and 5% genetic variability present in the material.

Positive responses to Zn addition on numerous crops have been documented. In this study, we field tested no Zn (0 kg ZnSO4.7 H2O/acre) and Zn treatment (25 kg ZnSO4.7 H2O/acre) in zinc deficient sites and their effect on grain yield of Pusa Basmati 1121. Surface soil samples (0-15cm) were collected from 16 sites from basmati rice grown soils in Gurdaspur district of Punjab. Findings of the study revealed that soils had variable available phosphorus and zinc status. The grain yield ranged from 20.8 to 29.8 q/ha in control with mean value of 25.

It is also contained three major components; i.e., bran, germ and endosperm. Edible wax coating is one of the method for enhancing the shelf life of fruits and vegetables, thereby post-harvest losses of these can also be reduced. India ranks first in the production of rice bran oil and large amount of wax available from the oil refineries. At present Indian scenario this wax is more used in pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries even though it is edible. Lack of proper refining method constraints its use in food application.

In this study, an extracellular alkali-thermostable phytase producing bacteria, Bacillus subtilis B.S.46, were isolated and molecularly identified using 16S rRNA sequencing. Response surface methodology was applied to study the interaction effects of assay conditions to obtain optimum value for maximizing phytase activity. The optimization resulted in 137% (4.627 U/mL) increase in phytase activity under optimum condition (56.5 C, pH 7.30 and 2.05 mM sodium phytate). The enzyme also showed 60–73% of maximum activity at wide ranges of temperature (47–68 C), pH (6.3–8.
