Infective endocarditis is a rare but severe condition associated with a high mortality rate in small animal patients. This condition is caused by a microbial (most often bacterial) infection of the valvular portion of the endocardium, from which proliferative and/or erosive lesions on the cardiac valves or immediately adjacent structures develop. The two most commonly affected cardiac valves are the aortic and mitral valves.

The present article describes a method of determination of low antimony concentrations using a graphite furnace AAS technique after electrochemical preconcentration. A 2-electrode flow-through cell was developed with a working electrode made of gold-coated porous carbon and an accessory Pt electrode. This cell worked in online coupling with the graphite furnace atomizer. Accumulation occurred from the 6 M hydrochloric acid solution and 2M nitric acid was used to dissolve and transport antimony into the sampling loop. The sampling loop was placed on a 6-way valve.

Critical aortic stenosis (AS) is the single most problematic valvular disease we encounter in the ICU. Patients with critical AS have a fixed cardiac output and cannot meaningfully increase cardiac output to meet the physiologic demands of critical illness. In this article, we present the case of a 53-year-old man with severe AS and pulmonary hypertension who developed hypotension during waiting for an elective aortic valve replacement. We discuss practical considerations and emergent treatment for the hemodynamically unstable patient with critical AS.

Biogas is produced through anaerobic fermentation process of organic matter and it contains CH4, CO2, H2S and other gases. The main combustible gas in biogas is CH4 and the presence of other gases reduces the calorific value of biogas, hence for obtaining better performance of engine it is essential to remove CO2 and H2S present in raw biogas. The dry absorbent based biogas purification system was developed and its performance was evaluated.

One of the easiest and efficient way of water conservation to solve drinking water scarcity is rooftop water harvesting. However, the technology has some limitations with regard to its purification system. The commonly used sand and gravel filter is very prone to clogging and its cleaning is not an easy job. At the same time, the alternative upward flow mesh filter needs further improvement in cleaning efficiency and some hassle free drain cum back washing mechanism. In upward flow mesh filter system, which creates anaerobic condition will give foul smell.

Bi-reactor open core gasifier was built with the capacity to process approximately 15 kg of briquettes per hour. The reactor was made up of double walled cylindrical body with 300 mm of outer cylinder diameter and 244 mm of inner cylinder diameters excluding the thickness of sheet 6 mm. Both the cylinders were made up of 3 mm M.S. sheet 18 SWG. Another reactor was fabricated with same specifications and both outlets were interconnected. Gate valves were fixed to regulate the air flow rate and control the producer gas.

The final goal of the work is to provide useful recommendations and guidelines for the design of a cold plug for the emergency draining system of a molten salt reactor. Some numerical thermal simulations were performed with ANSYS mechanical (Finite Element Method) to be compared with results of the experiments and to make extrapolations for a new component to be used in a reactor.

In this paper, we develop a mathematical model for PRVs capable of describing complete operation modes of PRVs in practice. In addition, we show that the PRV model equation can be relaxed so that it is useful for formulation of NLP. With the proposed PRV model, the formulated NLP can be solved by NLP algorithms based gradient methods to high quality solution and in less computation time. Two benchmarks of WDSs are taken to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed PRV model.
