  • A study was carried out for three years at Dr. Y. S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, Solan to evaluate the effect of different sowing methods and plant densities on oil yield of Tagetes minuta. Different planting methods i.e. broadcasting and seedling planting with varying plant densities S1 (30 x 15cm), S2 (30 x 30cm), S3 (30 x 45cm), S4 (45 x 45cm) and S5 (45 x 60cm) were evaluated under RBD Factorial design. The leaves biomass (pre-flowering stage), flower biomass and leaf + flower biomass (full bloom stage) yielded maximum oil at S3 (30 x 45cm) spacing.

  • Field experiment was conducted during summer, 2018 to determine the influence of LAI on yield maximisation in finger millet genotypes by varying plant densities. Maximum grain yield was obtained at the plant density of 44.4 to 66.6 hills m-2 but above or below. The source size (LAI) and source activity (photosynthetic rate) were not the limitations for yield maximisation under optimal irrigation and; LAI of 6.5 to 7.0 was optimum for maximum finger millet yield especially in variety, GPU-28.

  • The highest number of fruit pickings (10.32) and fruit yield per plant (26.56 kg) till 120 DAT was recorded by the var. Abhinav. Planting density at 60 cm x 60 cm (S2) recorded significantly the highest number of fruit pickings (11.03) followed by 75 cm x 40 cm (S3) (10.73). The lowest number of fruit pickings was recorded by the planting density at 120 cm x 40 cm (S1) (9.16).

  • From ancient time (over 5000 years) oil crops like Sesame, Brassica, Olea europaea, etc. have given importance for their nutritional, medicinal and food products properties. One of important oil crop belonging to Pedaliaceae family is Sesamum indicum L., is an annual plant and being neglected because of many reasons. India and China are the world’s largest producers of Sesame, The oil content of Sesame seed varies from 28% to 59%. Sesame oil serve as natural sources of antioxidants i.e. lignans which improves flavor and taste and contributes to greater shelf-life of foods.

  • Arbuscular mycorrhizal status of Pippali a medicinal plant species in the Jorhat district of Assam, India were surveyed during 2018. Percent colonization, spore density and diversity of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi associated with the rhizospheric soil and roots of pippali growing wild as well as under cultivated conditions were investigated. It was found that 100% of the surveyed sample was of mycorrhizal infestation. The spore colonization per cent of AMF ranged from 30.80 to 66.50% spores per 100 g of soil. The maximum spore population (185.

  • The outer layer had significantly higher SG and bending properties than the inner layer. The SG varied along the culm height. The top portions had consistently higher SG than the base. Bending strength had a strong positive correlation with SG. In order to industrially use bamboo strips efficiently, it is advisable to remove minimal surface material to produce high strength bamboo composites. Compression properties parallel to the longitudinal direction was significantly higher than perpendicular to the longitudinal direction.
