  • In the present study, 15 genotypes of Brassica juncea including white rust resistant and double low quality were characterized and allelic differentiation was determined using 453 SSRs and 139 (30.7%) showed polymorphism with 308 alleles. Polymorphic information content ranged from 0.101 to 0.668, with the average value of 0.474, revealing that much variation was present among these genotypes.

  • The study becomes much more reliable if a good degree of correspondence is observed between various genetic estimates over filial generations. Further, extent of heterosis will have direct effect on breeding methodology in varietal improvement programmes. Therefore, keeping aforesaid considerations in view, present study was undertaken in soybean to evaluate, identification and selection of better nutritional quality genotypes.

  • All India Co-ordinate Varietal trails conducted during kharif season of 2007, 2008 and 2009 in different testing centre’s of India, original experimental set up included 10 genotypes of finger millet (Ragi) tried in 9 locations all over India with a simple randomized block design with three replications in each location. GXE interaction analysis in Eberhart and Russell model revealed highly significant differences among genotypes and environments for plant height. The genotype PR 202 was well adapted to all environments.

  • The present study was aimed to identify the chilli varieties through its morphological characters identification. Tamil Nadu Agriculture University (TNAU) released chilli varieties viz., CO1, CO2, K1, K2, KKM1, PKM1, PMK1, PLR1, CCH1(hybrid), CA97 (male) and Sln1 (female) were used. The experiment was carried out during the period from August 2011 to February 2012.

  • Smut caused by Moesziomyces penicillariae is one of the major pearl millet diseases in India. in order to find out cost effective, economical and ecofriendly method to manage the disease attempts were made to identify the resistant sources of smut by germplasm screening. The field screening involved the artificial inoculation of the germplasm. Observations on smut severity were recorded 15-20 days after inoculation using smut severity (%) rating scale.

  • Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L. Millsp) is the most important grain legume grown in India. The crop is affected at various stages of the crop. Among the biotic stress stresses, Alternaria blight, caused by Alternaria tenussima is one of the most important foliar diseases of pigeonpea. Management of this disease through chemicals pesticides is not feasible and it affects the human, animal and ultimate causes the environmental pollution.

  • Castor (Ricinus communis L.) is a plant that is commercially very important to the world. It is produced in about 30 countries lying in the tropical belt of the world. It is an important plant for production of industrial oil. Assessment of genetic diversity of a crop species is a prerequisite to its improvement; hence it is important to identify the genetic diversity of castor genetic resources for development of improved cultivars.

  • The experiment on twenty three genotypes including three check varieties (GA 2, BGA 2 and RMA 7) of amaranthus (Amaranthus paniculatus L.) was conducted to work out the genetic variability, heritability, genetic advance, correlation, path coefficient and genetic divergence effects of their various attributes on seed yield. The analysis of variance revealed that mean squares due to treatments were highly significant for all characters except seed volume weight (g/10ml).

  • The 60 elite chickpea genotypes were morphologically characterized and classified as per the guidelines for the conduct of DUS test of chickpea (Cicerarietinum L.)by the PPV&FRA, 2007, GOI. Among 13 DUS traits observed; seven traits were found tri-morphic, four traits di-morphic and two traitspolymorphic among 60 chickpea genotypes indicated the existence of remarkable amount of genetic variability that have great potential to assign distinctive morphological profiles which could be used for varietal identification and characterization.

  • The study was conducted during 2014-15 and 2015-16 at the laboratories of the Department of Seed Science & Technology, CCS HAU, Hisar, to distinguish twenty Indian mustard varieties/genotypes based on chemical tests (phenol, modified phenol, KOH, NaOH, Peroxidase and 2, 4-D Auxin). Phenol test grouped variety into three distinct groups viz., dark reddish brown (12 varieties), dark grey (6 varieties) and Dark red (2 varieties). With the help of modified phenol test these varieties were further sub grouped. KOH test grouped varieties into three distinct groups i.e.

  • Although, India is the largest mango producing country in the world and also is the home of more than 1,000 mango cultivars but the productivity of mango in our country is low. Hence improvement work for the development of mango cultivars with higher yield and productivity is the utmost importance. For successful improvement work, proper identification of genetic resources or the parental materials is the basic need. Hence, the aim of study was to identify, characterize and recommend mango cultivars to broaden the varietal spectrum.

  • In this respect, lots of research needs to be done to improve production. A common problem encountered in all of the studies is that the kinds of data obtained are insufficient for the determination of olive cultivars because the characteristics of olive cultivars depend on the ecological conditions.
