The present investigation was aimed to identify the resistant germplasms against Colletotrichum capsici in vitro by artificial inoculation. Ten isolates of Colletotrichum capsici collected from different regions of Vidarbha and Marathwada (Maharashtra), Bidar district (Karnataka) and Guntur district (Andra Pradesh) showing varied type of pathogenic ability against chilli variety Jayanti and designated as strongly, moderately and weakly pathogenic on the basis of per cent leaf area covered by the disease.

Onion (Allium cepa L.) is one of the important commercial spice crop grown in India for its varied utilization in different cuisines. Odisha produces less than 20% of its consumption needs and for the rest it has to depend on imports from other states. The production and productivity of onion mainly depends upon its genotype, edaphic and climatological factors.

Therefore, three different varieties and three local cultivars were evaluated by pot culture under controlled condition. Study of varietal resistance revealed that all the six cultivars tested under controlled glass house condition were found highly susceptible (HS) to stem rot or basal stem rot diseases. But some other cultivars are found low level of per cent disease incidence.

An experiment was carried out to screen twelve French bean varieties against two spotted spider mite, T. urticae under open field condition. Among the twelve cultivars screened for their reaction to spider mite T. urticae, the descending order of these French bean varieties were as Gujarat Rajmah>Arka Komal> HUR-137 > IPR-98-5 >Suvidha>Arka Bold >ArkaAroop> IVFB-1 > HUR-203 > PDR-14 > HUR-15 > IPR-98-31.

A trial was carried out to evaluate the grain sorghum varieties for their reaction to major pests in advanced varietal experiment during kharif 2015 at All India Coordinated Sorghum Improvement Project, Sorghum Research Unit, Dr. PDKV, Akola. Nine sorghum varieties along with ten checks were screened for their reaction against shootfly, stem bore and aphids in randomized block design. The sorghum entry SPV 2296 expressed lowest shoot fly dead heart but not on par to resistant checks. The lines having low seedling glossiness score had positive highly significant (0.

Smut caused by Moesziomyces penicillariae is one of the major pearl millet diseases in India. in order to find out cost effective, economical and ecofriendly method to manage the disease attempts were made to identify the resistant sources of smut by germplasm screening. The field screening involved the artificial inoculation of the germplasm. Observations on smut severity were recorded 15-20 days after inoculation using smut severity (%) rating scale.

The present study was carried out at Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Ponnampet, University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga during 2015. The experimental material comprised of 15 advanced varietal lines including existing variety as check. Mean performance of individual rice genotypes revealed that the days to 50% flowering found to vary from 85.00 days to 114.50. Plant height was found to vary from 59.84 cm to 91.33 cm with average height of 75.42 cm.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa L.) is well known for its medicinal value, its cultivation is hindered by several diseases viz., leaf spot, anthracnose and rhizome rot. These diseases are managed by using the fungicides, which leads to development of resistant strains besides the environmental pollution and also the residue problem on final produce.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the reactions of 41 rice cultivars to Aphelenchoides besseyi under field conditions in 2012 at the Thrace Agricultural Research Institute. The experiments were conducted as split plots in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. An infected plot and an uninfected control plot were the main plots; the cultivars were subplots.

Strong increase in the production of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) observed over the years has led to a consolidation of transgenic seed industries worldwide. The dichotomy between the evaluated risk and the perceived risk of transgenic use has defined their level of acceptability among different global societies. GMOs have been widely applied to agricultural commodities, among them the Roundup Ready™ (RR™) soybean line GTS 40-3-2 has become the most prevalent transgenic crop in the world.
