Varieties of fenugreek

This investigation was undertaken to evaluate the performance of fenugreek under different levels of NPK for maximization of yield. The experiment was carried out at the HRS, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, India during the year 2013-14 and 2014-15. The variety ‘Hissar Sonali’ was taken under the study.

Front line demonstrations on yield enhancement of fenugreek variety AFg-3 were conducted at different villages of Chittorgarh and Udaipur districts during 2018-19. A total of 60 front line demonstrations were conducted on fenugreek in 12 ha by the active participation of the farmers with the objective of improved technologies of fenugreek production potentials. In the demonstration fields, seed of improved variety (AFg-3)along with all improved packages of practices of fenugreek were applied.

The present investigation entitled “Studies on morphological and phytochemical variation between two varieties of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) at different concentration of sodium azide” was conducted in Department of Plant Biotechnology in SDMVM‟s college of Agriculture Biotechnology, Georai Tanda, Aurangabad. The aim of study was to see the effect of sodium azide on germination percentage and to study the morphological and phytochemical variation between of two varieties of fenugreek (Gaytri and Haldighati).

Agriculture is one of the significant contributors to the Indian economy. Growing a good crop depends on multiple factors like soil condition, climatic condition, rainfall, selection of good variety etc. and selection of crop plays a very important role in getting a good return. India has a unique position as a major supplier of seed spices in the international trade. Some major seed spices are Cumin, Coriander, Fennel and Fenugreek and minor seed spices are Ajwain, Nigella, Aniseed, Dill, Caraway, and Celery.

Root rot of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.), caused by Rhizoctonia solani has become an important constraint to the growers of fenugreek in Rajasthan. Eight varieties of fenugreek viz., RMT-1, RMT143, RMT-303, RMT-305, RMT-351, RMT-354, RMT-361 and Local variety were tested against Rhizoctonia solani, the reaction of RMT 354 and RMT-361 were observed to be moderately resistant against root rot and rest of the varieties were rated as susceptible. RMT-305 and Local were highly susceptible to the disease.

A field experiment was conducted at the certified organic farm, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari during rabi season of 2016-2017 to study the “Effect of organics on soil properties, growth, yield and quality of fenugreek (Trigonellafoenum-graecum L.) grown under organic farming system”. The treatment comprising three treatment of solid organics (S0: Control, S1: NADEP compost @ 5 t ha-1 and S2: Vermicompost @ 2.
