Various bottle gourd

The present investigation was carried out at Horticultural Research Station, Mondouri, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, Nadia, West Bengal, India during spring summer seasons of 2015, 2016 and 2017 in a Randomized Block Design with three replications. The morphological characterization was done as per minimal descriptors of NBPGR developed for bottle gourd. The results revealed that the greatest diversity was observed in fruit characters especially fruit shape and fruit colour among the genotypes for various characters studied.

The present investigation was carried out at the Experimental Field, Division of Vegetable Science, SKUAST-K, Shalimar during Kharief 2018. The experiment was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Thirty genotypes were evaluated for various quantitative and quality traits. Analysis of variance revealed significant differences among genotypes for all the traits.

Bottlegourd is prone to various fungal, bacterial and viral diseases. Among various fungal diseases, anthracnose, downy mildew and cercospora leaf spot are prevalent in different bottlegourd growing areas. Anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum lagenarium (Pass) Ellis. and Halsted is of major economic importance. The pathogen is seed borne in nature but initiation as well as spread of disease largely depends upon the environmental factors. This disease is widespread under both greenhouse and field cultivation resulting in poor fruit quality and yield.

Yield is a complex character controlled by a large number of contributing characters and their interactions. For any effective selection programme, it would be desirable to consider the relative magnitude of association of various characters with yield. The path coefficient technique helps in estimating direct and indirect contribution of various components in building up the total correlation towards yield. Two different types of explant (proximal and flamingo-bill) from Emphasis seedlings, a hybrid cultivar of bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria (Molina) Stand.), germinated under dark and light conditions were cultured on 9 regeneration MS media containing various combinations of BA (0, 1.0, and 2.0 mg l–1) and IAA (0, 0.25, and 0.5 mg l–1).
