New 3-aryl-6-methylpyrimido[4,5-c]pyridazine-5,7(6H,8H)-diones and 3-aryl-6-ethyl-7-thioxo-7,8-dihydropyrimido[4,5-c]pyridazin-5(6H)-ones were efficiently synthesized via a regiospecific one-pot reaction of N-methylbarbituric acid and N -ethyl-2-thiobarbituric acid with various arylglyoxal monohydrates in the presence of hydrazine dihydrochloride in ethanol at 50◦C. The target compounds were obtained in high yields and were regioisomerically pure after recrystallization. These new heterocycles may act as potential MAO B inhibitors.

Very small concentrations of a dimeric C,N-palladacycle were used as an efficient homogeneous catalyst for Sonogashira cross-coupling reactions between various aryl halides and phenylacetylene. The catalytic reactions were performed without the need for copper in DMF/H2O. This catalytic system shows excellent yields for aryl iodides and bromides and even in the case of aryl chlorides.

Novel chiral bisoxazoline ligands based on norbornadiene were synthesized and used for the asymmetric Henry reaction. Various aromatic aldehydes were converted into chiral β -nitro alcohols with high yields and moderate to acceptable enantioselectivities under the optimized reaction conditions. The short and efficient synthesis of bisoxazoline ligands, the flexibility in ligand design, coordination to a large number of transition metals, and excellent enantioselectivity in many reactions make these ligands indispensable in asymmetric catalysis.

The compounds were characterized by spectroscopic and elemental analyses. The synthesized NHC–Ag(I) complexes (3a–c) were tested as catalysts for the catalytic threecomponent coupling reaction of aldehyde, alkyne, and amine to propargylamines in various solvents. Graphite oxide as a heterogeneous and recyclable solid acid catalyzed a simple and efficient method for the synthesis of β-amino alcohols by ring opening of epoxides with amines. This method is effective with various aromatic and aliphatic amines under solvent-free conditions. The corresponding β-amino alcohols are obtained in high yields (56%–95%) and short reaction times (15–30 min) with high regio- and chemoselectivity under metal-free conditions.

PCA revealed overall acceptability, taste and colour as the top three sensory components contributing to variation in the gari samples. Root size negatively correlated with dry matter, starch content and gari yield. It was concluded that the various cassava varieties exhibited some distinct morpholgical and chemical characteristics which influenced their potentials for gari production.
