Varying drug resistant patterns

The microbiology and the susceptibility patterns of infected total knee arthroplasties (TKAs) vary depending on demographic, local antimicrobial stewardship, and surgical factors. We wanted to compare the recent microbial profile and antimicrobial resistance pattern in revisions due to infections after primary TKAs in Sweden and Lithuania.

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality in developing countries. Drug resistance, a huge problem in this contagious disease, is driven by point mutations in the Mycobacterium tuberculosis genome however, their frequencies vary geographically and this affects applicability of molecular diagnostics for rapid detection of resistance.

Among the other 12 inpatient MRSA isolates which had the pvl gene, nine were sensitive to most of the non- beta lactam antibiotics, whereas remaining three were resistant to most of the antibiotics except vancomycin and linezolid. The presence of pvl gene can no longer be used to discriminate between CA-MRSA and HA-MRSA.

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is considered as the most common bacterial infectious disease seen among the pediatric patients. Pediatric urinary tract infections are associated with high morbidity and long term complications like renal scaring, hypertension and chronic renal failure The epidemiology of UTI during childhood varies by age, gender and other factors (Bickerton and Ducket, 1985). Most commonly bacteria causes of UTI in children are members of Enterobacteriaceae, particularly uropathogenic strains of E. coli and Klebsiella spp.

Urinary tract infections are the commonest infectious disease, seeking medical consultation and antibiotic therapy worldwide. Klebsiella pneumonia is among the most common uropathogen responsible for recurrent infections and it antimicrobial susceptibility to commonly prescribed drugs vary significantly in different regions. Hence, the objective was to analyze the local etiology and antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of urinary K. pneumonia, to optimize the rational empirical therapy.

Surgical site infections are most common nosocomial infection and are associated with prolonged hospital stay, health care cost, morbidity and mortality. The causative agents involved in SSI’s may vary with geographical location, between surgeons, various procedures and from hospital to hospital. The present study was done to determine the aerobic bacterial flora from surgical site infections and their antimicrobial resistance pattern. A total of 50 culture positive samples obtained from SSI’s were included in this study.
