Vasorelaxant activities

The effect of geteratisin (3–200 micromol/L) and 6–O–benzoylgeteratisin (10–250 micromol/L) on the contractile activity of the rat aorta smooth muscle cells (SMC) was studied. Isometric tension forces were recorded using a force transducer FT–03 (Grass Instrument Co., USA). In the experiments it was revealed that vasorelaxant effect of heteratisine is mainly associated with the blockade of Ca2+L–channel, receptor–operated Ca2+ –channels (ROCC), and store–operated Ca2+–channels (SOCC).

The endothelium-derived hyperpolarizing factor (EDHF) response is a critical for the functioning of small blood vessels. We investigated the effect of streptozotocin-induced diabetes on the EDHF response and its possible role in the regulation of cardiac function. Amygdalus lycioides var. horrida (Spach) Browicz (Rosaceae), also known as Prunus lycioides (Spach.) Schneid., is an endemic Iranian species of the genus Amygdalus. In Iranian traditional medicine, the aerial parts and roots of A. lycioides are used in the treatment of diabetes. Six flavonoids, i.e. quercetin 3-O-rhamnoside (1), luteolin 7-O-rhamnoside (2), isorhamnetin 3-O-rutinoside (3), kaempferol 3-O-rhamnoside (4), apigenin (5), and naringenin (6), have been isolated from the aerial parts of this plant.

IHE ACS SYMPOSIUM SERIES was first published in 1974 to provide a mechanism for publishing symposia quickly in book form. The purpose of this series is to publish comprehensive books developed from symposia, which are usually "snapshots in time" of the current research being done on a topic, plus some review material on the topic. For this reason, it is necessary that the papers be published as quickly as possible.
