Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a unique vegetable-fruit possessing several multifarious health benefits. In this study, the plant extraction obtained from grafted bitter gourd onto pumpkin (Cucurbita maxima) and nongrafted bitter gourd cultivated under greenhouse conditions were evaluated for their constituents of volatile compounds. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (SPMEGC-MS) techniques were employed to determine these compounds in the leaves (young, middle, and old-age) and fruits (unripe and ripe) of bitter gourd.

The propagation of the hibiscus may be carried out with cutting and grafting. Stem cutting and cleft grafting are the most important method of vegetative propagation. The cuttings treated with high concentration of IBA, performed the best in rooting and survival percentage, whereas, the mist house growing condition was found effective in increasing the success rate of the cuttings.

In addition to the widely recognized advantages of disease tolerance and high crop yields through vigorous attainment of nutrients, grafting technology is also highly effective in ameliorating crop losses caused by adverse environmental conditions such as low soil temperature and high soil salts, especially under protected cultivations where successive cropping or continuous farming is routinely practiced. Grafted seedlings are much favored in hydroponics farming systems where the chances of rapid spread of noxious diseases, once infected, is high.

Grafting of vegetable seedlings is a unique horticultural technology practiced to improve plant production, reduce disease susceptibility and increase plant vigour. This technology was introduced to Europe and other countries in the late 20th century along with improved grafting methods suitable for commercial production of grafted vegetable seedlings.

Apple is the leading fruit in the temperate regions of the world due its major share in the production of temperate fruit crops. Heterozygocity is the major problem for the production of true-to-type plants which leads to the production of propagule through vegetative means. Grafting is the one of the major artificial vegetative means of propagation. But the graft incompatibility and many other things lead to the failure of grafted plants.

Pomegranate can be propagated by seed, air layering, grafting, shoot cuttings and tissue culture. Seed propagation is used to raise the rootstocks that can be utilized for germplasm conservation and rootstocks breeding purpose. Vegetative propagation methods are used to multiply selected genotypes that bring similar character in form of clones having similar characters to mother plant. Vegetative propagation techniques (hard wood cutting, layering) are practices to raise the saplings for commercial production in pomegranate, because it perpetuates all characteristics of each cultivar.

An experiment on effect of bunch load on berry quality, yield, raisin recovery and biochemical parameters in Thompson Seedless grapes grafted on 110-R rootstock was carried out in ICAR National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune during 2015- 16. The crop load was adjusted to 50, 75, 100 and 125 bunches per vine. Increase in number of bunches/vine reduced the leaf area index. Highest LAI (1.24) was observed in treatment with 50 bunches/vine.

A study was carried out to determine the graft compatibility of bitter gourd scions (Palee F1 and CO 1) with ten different cucurbitaceous rootstocks. The grafting technique adopted in this study was side grafting. Graft compatibility was determined by assessing the survival rate of the grafted plants after regeneration of vascular bundles across the graft interface and vegetative growth of the scion.

Vegetable grafting is a technology whose main objective is to increase yield under biotic and abiotic stresses such as sub and supra-optimal temperature, salinity, drought, Pest damage, diseases etc. Commercial vegetable grafting has been started since few decades and the area under vegetable grafting is progressively increasing. Vegetable grafting is having potential to expand area under cultivation of vegetables under non-traditional conditions and unstable agro-eco-systems and there it has a scope to increase production per unit land available.

Grafting has been widely practiced for centuries in the propagation and production of many vegetable and fruit species. However, the underlying molecular and genetic mechanisms for how the graft partners interact with each other to produce a successful graft remain largely unknown.

Under cultivation, many outcrossing fruit tree species have switched from sexual reproduction to vegetative propagation. Traditional production systems have persisted, where cultivar propagation is based on a mixed reproductive system. For millenia, almond, Prunus dulcis, has been propagated by seeds.

Bell-pepper is a money spinner off season vegetable and is being exported to distant markets and brings profitable returns to the farmers. Manual grafting is labour intensive, time consuming and has poor grafting success as compared to robotic grafting, to accelerate grafting in vegetables, grafting robots are being used in some countries. The experimentation was laid out in a Factorial Randomized Block Design with three replications and data was recorded on various horticultural and quality traits.

Mesta (Hibiscus sabdariffa) is an important commercial fibre crop after cotton and jute, which belong to the family Malvaceae. The crop is mainly grown for a green leafy vegetable purpose in North Karnataka, India. Mesta crop is being affected by many diseases of which leaf curl disease caused by Begomovirus is a main constraint in its production. The disease is observed to be transmitted by different means mainly by whitefly (B. tabaci), dodder (Cuscuta sp.), grafting and sap.

Vegetables shares major part of the daily dishes prepared in Indian kitchen and are rich in carbohydrate, vitamins, minerals and other phyto-nutraceuticals. But less do we know that these vegetables are heavily-laden with synthetic chemicals and pesticides. In order to gain higher yield most of the Indian farmers uses synthetic chemicals and pesticides which ultimately induced in the food chain and affects human and environment health.

Commercially plum is multiplied by budding and grafting which is a difficult exercise for unskilled farmers. Therefore, multiplication through semi hard wood stem cuttings in mist house has been studied with six treatments of indole-3-butyric acid concentrations (0, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 ppm) at Horticulture Research Center, HNBGU, Srinagar Garhwal, Uttarakhand during the year 2016-17 under Ph.D. discipline. Cuttings were treated by quick dip (2 minute) method and planted in disposable glass. All observations were registered after 90 days of planting the cuttings under mist chamber.

Tomato is one of the potential vegetable crops both under protected and open field conditions in mid hills of Himachal Pradesh. The production under protected as well as open conditions has suffered in mid hills of HP due to biotic and abiotic stresses. Among biotic stresses bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is the most devastating disease under protected as well as open field conditions in mid hills of HP which reduces tomato yield to very low levels.
