Vermicomposting technology

Two consecutive field experiments after rice crop were conducted during 2011-12 and 2012-13 in the Crop Research Centre, of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Uttar Pradesh. Ten different treatments were implied to evaluate the residual effect of vermicompost and applied inorganic fertilizers on wheat crop. Significantly taller plants than T2 during both the years were measured in those treatments where 4 ton vermicompost was applied in rice.

The awareness for vermicompost production for soil health as well as for entrepreneurship development was created among the rural population of Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Chittorgarh through Front Line Demonstration programmes. The FLD programmes were conducted during year 2015 to 2017 and the study was conducted during year 2018-19. The study was conducted on the beneficiaries of FLD programmes and total 100 farmers were selected randomly.

Educational technology is the integration of the science of education with the advances in technologies like information and communication to address fundamental issues of teaching and learning. The present study was conducted in the Barpeta district of Assam with the objectives to develop participatory videos on mushroom and vermicompost production technologies and assess the performance of digital videos as extension teaching aid in terms of comprehensiveness, usefulness and degree of convincing.

A field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2011-12 and 2012-13at C.S. Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, Kanpur to find out the combined effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers on grain yield, fertilizer use efficiency and grain quality of wheat crop. The treatments were -Control (T1), RDF (150:60:40 NPK Kg/ha) (T2),125% RDF (T3), RDF + Vermicompost (VC) at 2.5 t/ha (T4), RDF + VC at 5t/ha (T5), RDF + FYM at 5t/ha (T6), RDF + FYM at 10t/ha (T7), RDF + VC at 2.5 t/ha + Azotobacter (T8), RDF + FYM at 5t/ha + Azotobacter (T9), and RDF + VC at 2.

A field experiment was conducted during winter season of 2011-2012 at Instructional Farm of Narendra Deva University of Agriculture & Technology Narendra Nagar (Kumarganj), Faizabad. The experiment was consisting of eight (8) treatment viz., T1 (control), T2 (100% RDF), T3 (75% RDF + 25% FYM-N), T4 (50% RDF +50% FYM- N), T5 (25% RDF +75 % FYM -N), T6 (75% RDF + 25% Vermicompost-N), T7 (50% RDF +50% Vermicompost -N), T8 (25% RDF + 75% Vermicompost -N) were laid out in randomized block design with four replication.

The present investigation was under taken in the Department of Horticulture, Naini Agricultural Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Allahabad during rabi season (2016-2017). Experiment was carried out to assess the performance of five Oriental lily varieties viz., Cobra Red, Signum, Yelloween, Sorbonne and Justina grown in different media viz. vermicompost, coco peat and sand in different compositions. The study was conducted as a pot culture trial in form of factorial experiment following completely Randomized Design with 3 replications.

In the present paper the year wise production and sales of organic inputs are taken into account to derive the total area and economic impact thereof. The receipts of produce sold at laboratories served as the source of information to the study. The results indicate that, the sale of inputs is on rise, so also the farmers who are adopting these technologies in their own field are also more. People are approaching KVK for these technologies. To increase the production of organic inputs KVK, Bagalkot is imparting the technologies of Vermicompost production (Biradar, 2006).

The experiment was conducted in Division of Agroforestry, Sher-e-kashmir University of Agricultural sciences and Technology of Jammu, Chatha, during the year 2017. Mature fruits were collected from randomly selected four trees and were graded into small (S), medium (M) and large size (L) on the basis of diameter. The fruit subjected to four presowing treatments were sown in polythene bags with potting mixture consisting of soil, sand vermicompost and FYM in (1:1:1:1) ratio.

A Study was conducted to ascertain the level of Acquired Skills of trainees with respect to vermicompost production technology of training imparted by K.V.K. Birauli, Farmers were selected from the four villages namely Morsand, Harpur, Chandauli, and Jagdishpur under Pusa block of Samastipur district and imparted training on vermicompost production technology. 40 trained and 40 untrained farmers from these villages were selected for study purpose making the sample size up to 80 farmers.

Vermicompost scheduling on nutrient uptake at different growth stages of rice crop were assessed at two field experiments conducted during 2011-12 and 2012-13 in the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut. Different levels of vermicompost along with nitrogen (N) were included in the study. Initially higher nutrient availability in soil in these treatments responded well to plant growth and plant nutrient contents and a significant variation in dry matter accumulation and plant nutrient contents was noticed.

‘Seed balls’ are prepared by non-governmental organizations and enthusiastic school children to trees grow trees rapidly for ecosystem restoration. However, there is immense scope for technically improving the seed balls by ensuring the quality of seeds as well as media; further preparing cuboid structures, instead of ball like structure has immense scope in facilitating rooting of the newly emerging seedlings. Against this back drop, a series of experiments were conducted to standardize the seed coating technique, seed priming method and appropriate media for making seed cubes.

It is a stabilized, finely divided peat-like material with a low C:N ratio, high porosity and high water-holding capacity, in which most nutrients are present in forms that are readily taken up by plants.
