Vietnamese local chicken breeds

The Tajima’s test indicated that the analysed population in balancing selection with a D-value of 2.39. A phylogenetic tree based on 455 bp of hypervariable mtDloop sequence classified 17 Bang Troi chicken individuals into three clades A, B, and E, which are common groups of Vietnamese and Asia indigenous chickens. This result provides the first genetic information and maternal lineages of Bang Troi chickens and it can support for registration of local chicken breeds.

The study was conducted from October 2016 to December 2017 at the Experimental Farm, Faculty of Animal Science, Vietnam National University of Agriculture, with the aim to evaluate the interaction between farming model types and reproductive performance of Ho and Dong Tao chickens.

As Vietnam has rich resources of local chicken breeds, some of them are known having a certain level of infectious disease resistance. Knowledge of the single-nucleotide polymorphism in exon 14 of the chicken Mx gene will facilitate further researches on the resistant activity of Mx gene and its use for breeding of influenza virus resistant chicken varieties. This study aimed to investigate the exon 14 polymorphisms of the Mx gene in some representative indigenous chicken breeds collected from different locals in Vietnam.
