During maturation seeds acquire several physiological traits to enable them to survive drying and disseminate the species. Few studies have addressed the regulatory networks controlling acquisition of these traits at the tissue level particularly in endospermic seeds such as tomato, which matures in a fully hydrated environment and does not undergo maturation drying.

In onion, among the postharvest diseases, black mold rot caused by Aspergillus niger is the predominant one. The pathogen is transmitted by contaminated seed or soil. The infection usually begins at germination of onion seeds and may continue throughout storage. The purpose of the study was to explore the control of black mold of onion with various systemic, non systemic and combination of fungicides by treating the seeds. Considering per cent reduction of radial growth of Aspergillus niger, non systemic fungicide dinocap (90.28) and thiram (80.

The present investigation was carried out in 73 eggplant genotypes to assess the nature and extent of genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance under normal (0% PEG-6000 as control) and osmotic stress condition (12 % PEG-6000) in germination phases in three replications in a completely randomized design. The observations on germination per cent, root, shoot and seedling length, fresh weight of seedlings and total dry matter were recorded on tenth day after incubation.

The storage experiment was conducted from July, 2017 to March, 2018 at the Seed Quality Research Laboratory, National Seed Project, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad to know the “Influence of desiccants on quality of onion seeds during storage”. The experiment involved storage of onion seeds cv. Arkakalyan with three desiccants viz., Zeolite beads (T1), Bentonite granules (T2), Charcoal granules (T3) and control (T4). The experiment was laid out in completely randomized design with five replications.

Zinc oxide (ZnO), Silver (Ag), nanoparticles were synthesised using simple chemical route which were characterised using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), Particle Size Analyzer and Raman Spectroscopy. Size of Zinc oxide (ZnO), Silver (Ag) Copper oxide nanoparticles measured 16-50 nm, 50-100 nm, respectively to conform the nano-size. Onion seeds when dry dressed with the synthesised nanoparticles each at 750, 1000, 1250 and 1500 mg kg-1, the dose of 1000 mg kg-1 outperformed in enhancing the germination (72%), shoot length (7.5 cm) root length (6.

Rice variety ADT (R) 46 seeds have the problem of poor storage and therefore, to increase the storability of the seeds an experiment was conducted at Tamil Nadu Rice Research Institute, Aduthurai during 2016-18 by treating the seeds with different chemicals and leaf extracts. The results showed that the seeds treated with antioxidant, α - tocopherol (Vitamin - E) @ 1 % for 18 h and stored in polylined gunny bag have recorded the higher germination (95 %) and seedling vigour upto six months compared to control.

The chloroform extract of Polygonum minus Huds. was found to exhibit inhibitory effect against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici under laboratory conditions. Hence a new botanical fungicide (Polymin 40 EC) was formulated from the chloroform extract of Polygonum minus Huds. Polymin 40 EC to control the pathogen under in vivo conditions.

Mungbean is grown principally for its protein content. Seed borne mycoflora affect the germination and vigour of seeds. Seed health is an important factor in the control of diseases, since an infected seed is less viable, has low germination, reduced vigour and reduced yield.

Sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] is a vital life-sustaining food crop for human being as well as for livestock in many parts of world. In India, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu are major sorghum growing states. Therefore, investigation was undertaken during 2016 at N. A. U., Navsari on isolation of sorghum seed infecting fungi, (Colletotrichum sp., Fusarium moniliforme, Alternaria alternata, Curvularia lunata, Macrophomina sp., Aspergillus niger and A. flavus.

All the five cultivars were inoculated with the Fusarium oxysporum, Phoma sp., Penicillium sp., Curvularia lunata, Alternaria tenuis, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger. Lowest seed germination was found in cultivar ABH-1 (56.63%). Significantly highest seed germination was observed in cultivar Doli-5 (72.13%). F. oxysporum, Phoma sp., Penicillium sp., C. lunata, A. tenuis, A. flavus, A. niger and control (uninoculated) showed average germination per cent 66.4, 70.3, 61.
