Ebook "Plant virus evolution" focuses on the evolution of plant viruses, although some chapters also draw on the more extensive knowledge of animal viruses. It covers topics on evo- tionary mechanisms, viral ecology and emergence, appropriate methods for analysis, and the role of evolution in taxonomy. It includes RNA viruses, DNA viruses, integrated viruses and viroids.

How viruses evolve within hosts can dictate infection outcomes; however, reconstructing this process is challenging. We evaluate our multiplexed amplicon approach, PrimalSeq, to demonstrate how virus concentration, sequencing coverage, primer mismatches, and replicates influence the accuracy of measuring intrahost virus diversity.

In recognition of the increasingly important role that genomics plays in virology and public health epidemiology, the Wellcome Genome Campus hosted the inaugural conference on Virus Genomics and Evolution in June 2016. This multidisciplinary conference brought together public health researchers who are generating viral genomic data from clinical samples and evolutionary biologists and bioinformaticians who are developing methods to interrogate these data.

Viral populations are complex, dynamic, and fast evolving. The evolution of groups of closely related viruses in a competitive environment is termed quasispecies. To fully understand the role that quasispecies play in viral evolution, characterizing the trajectories of viral genotypes in an evolving population is the key. In particular, longrange haplotype information for thousands of individual viruses is critical; yet generating this information is non-trivial.

Viruses undergo extensive evolutionary selection for efficient replication which effects, among others, their codon distribution. In the current study, we aimed at understanding the way evolution shapes the codon distribution in early vs. late viral genes in terms of their expression during different stages in the viral replication cycle. To this end we analyzed 14 bacteriophages and 11 human viruses with available information about the expression phases of their genes.

Erinnyis ello granulovirus (ErelGV) is a betabaculovirus infecting caterpillars of the sphingid moth E. ello ello (cassava hornworm), an important pest of cassava crops (Manihot esculenta). In this study, the genome of seven field isolates of the virus ErelGV were deep sequenced and their inter- and intrapopulational sequence diversity were analyzed.

Genome variation is very high in influenza A viruses. However, viral evolution and spreading is strongly influenced by immunogenic features and capacity to bind host cells, depending in turn on the two major capsidic proteins.

The objective of the present study is 1. To study the changing laboratory profiles in dengue viral infections. 2. To correlate these laboratory tests during the evolution of dengue fever and in assessing severity of disease. 3. To study the association of these profiles in remission of the disease. 4. And also to study factors involved in predicting prognosis.

Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) is the most prevalent viral disease in many soybean production areas. Due to a large number of SMV resistant loci and alleles, SMV strains and the rapid evolution in avirulence/effector genes, traditional breeding for SMV resistance is complex.

Tomato leaf curl virus disease (ToLCVD) is one of the major causes for highest economical loss of tomato in India. In this study, Natural incidence of ToLCV disease on tomato was observed at Gujarat, India in the March, 2019. The infected plants revealed systemic viral symptoms in the form of sever leaf curling, leaf crumple with marginal yellowing, stem warped and stunted. Molecular methods were followed to further characterized coat protein (CP) gene of tomato leaf curl virus using specified primers.

Last few decades have been momentous in the history of human and animal health because a series of new infectious zoonotic viruses were reported and researched across the globe. More than 70% of the emerging zoonoses reported in the last decade had viral etiology and originated in wild life. Changing face of zoonotic viruses poses threat to public health and economy. The risk factors precipitating the occurrence of emerging viruses are many; and they are in a state of continuous evolution.

In this review, the clinical manifestations of urinary schistosomiasis are displayed from a pathogenetic perspective. According to the prevailing host’s immune response profile, urinary schistosomiasis may be broadly categorized into cell-mediated and immune-complex-mediated disorders. The former, usually due to Schistosoma haematobium infection, are attributed to the formation of granulomata along the entire urinary tract. As they heal with excessive fibrosis, they may lead to strictures, calcifications and urodynamic abnormalities.
