The study "Genetic analysis of African swine fever virus based on major genes encoding p72, p54 and p30" was set out to characterize African swine fever virus genotypes from 20 farms in 10 provinces, which occurred ASF outbreaks in 2019 and 2020. The results are expected to contribute sequence data for molecular epidemiology studies and provide further understanding of ASF disease patterns in Southern Vietnam.

Identification of acute or recent hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections is important for detecting outbreaks and devising timely public health interventions for interruption of transmission. Epidemiological investigations and chemistry-based laboratory tests are 2 main approaches that are available for identification of acute HCV infection. However, owing to complexity, both approaches are not efficient.

RNA viruses such as HCV and HIV mutate at extremely high rates, and as a result, they exist in infected hosts as populations of genetically related variants. Recent advances in sequencing technologies make possible to identify such populations at great depth. In particular, these technologies provide new opportunities for inference of relatedness between viral samples, identification of transmission clusters and sources of infection, which are crucial tasks for viral outbreaks investigations.

A critical goal in biology is to relate the phenotype to the genotype, that is, to find the genetic determinants of various traits. However, while simple monofactorial determinants are relatively easy to identify, the underpinnings of complex phenotypes are harder to predict.

A virus community is the spectrum of viral strains populating an infected host, which plays a key role in pathogenesis and therapy response in viral infectious diseases. However automatic and dedicated pipeline for interpreting virus community sequencing data has not been developed yet.

In 2014, a novel tick-borne virus of the Flaviviridae family was first reported in the Mogiana region of Brazil and named the Mogiana tick virus (MGTV). Thereafter, the Jingmen tick virus (JMTV), Kindia tick virus (KITV), and Guangxi tick virus (GXTV)—evolutionarily related to MGTV—were reported.

Infectious bursal disease (IBD) is an economically very important issue to the poultry industry and it is one of the major threats to the nation’s food security. The pathogen, a highly pathogenic strain of a very virulent IBD virus causes high mortality and immunosuppression in chickens.

In this study, clustering was performed using a bitmap representation of HIV reverse transcriptase and protease sequences, to produce an unsupervised classification of HIV sequences. The classification will aid our understanding of the interactions between mutations and drug resistance.

Infection with feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) causes an immunosuppressive disease whose consequences are less severe if cats are co-infected with an attenuated FIV strain (PLV). We use virus diversity measurements, which reflect replication ability and the virus response to various conditions, to test whether diversity of virulent FIV in lymphoid tissues is altered in the presence of PLV.

The ease at which influenza virus sequence data can be used to estimate antigenic relationships between strains and the existence of databases containing sequence data for hundreds of thousands influenza strains make sequence-based antigenic distance estimates an attractive approach to researchers.

Transfer of genetic material from microbes or viruses into the host genome is known as horizontal gene transfer (HGT). The integration of viruses into the human genome is associated with multiple cancers, and these can now be detected using next-generation sequencing methods such as whole genome sequencing and RNA-sequencing.

In this paper, we propose the use of weighted categorical kernel functions to predict drug resistance from virus sequence data. These kernel functions are very simple to implement and are able to take into account HIV data particularities, such as allele mixtures, and to weigh the different importance of each protein residue, as it is known that not all positions contribute equally to the resistance.

Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) is an economically important and contagious viral disease of poultry. An attempt was made for development of a synthetic peptide based diagnostic reagent. Cell culture adapted viral antigen was prepared by successful passage on CEF and then ultracentrifugation to get partially purified virus. Confirmation of the virus in was done by RT- PCR. The antigen was then used for the production of hyper immune sera in rabbits. Sera samples were also collected from known IBD vaccinated and non-vaccinated birds.

Over the last two years, considerable advances have been made in common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genomics, especially with the completion of the genome sequence and the availability of RNAseq data. However, as common bean is recalcitrant to stable genetic transformation, much work remains to be done for the development of functional genomics tools adapted to large-scale studies.

Proteomics is becoming an increasingly important tool for the study of many different aspects of plant functions, such as investigating the molecular processes underlying hostpathogen interaction, plant physiology, development and differentiation. Cassava mosaic disease (CMD), caused by cassava mosaic virus (CMV), is the most serious disease in cassava. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying CMD in cassava during CMV infection is not yet clearly understood.
