  • This study aimed to address this knowledge gap by providing a comprehensive and detailed database of the characteristics and compositions of the most commonly encountered agricultural residues in Vietnam and Ireland. The research encompassed the analysis of various aspects, including physical characteristics such as moisture content, bulk density, calorific value, volatile matter, fixed-carbon content, and ash content.

  • The physical and proximate analysis of the fuel used during cooking was determined. The properties viz., moisture content fixed carbon, volatile matter, ash content was determined and the physical properties like bulk densities, resistance to water penetration and the shatter resistance of agro residue briquettes were determined to know the suitability of fuel for cook stove.

  • Particle size is important parameter affecting the composition, quality and final applications of the producer gas. Fine grained or fluffy feed stock may cause flow problems in the gasifier as well as an inadmissible pressure drop over the reduction zone and a high proportion of dust in the gas. To avoid such problems briquetted material considered for gasification. The developed gasifier was tested with different sizes of briquettes of 15, 30 and 45 mm width and 90 mm diameter. The volatile matter, fixed carbon and ash content of briquette were found as 71.87%, 17.07% and 4.

  • Various engineering properties of rice husk, rice straw, sugarcane bagasse and cotton stalk were estimated. Experiment was performed at SPRERI (Sardar Patel Renewable Energy Research Institute), Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat. Different physical properties of these residues such as moisture content, bulk density, true density, porosity, angle of repose and thermal properties like volatile matter, ash content and fixed carbon was measured. Bulk density of rice husk and rice straw was 331.59 kg/m3 and 380.54 kg/m3 respectively.

  • Results showed that these wastes had a high potential for use in energy conversion technologies. Plastic waste had the highest value for volatile matter and calorific value. Meanwhile, bagasse and textile wastes had a very low ash content, suitable for thermal processes. TGA-DTG analysis showed that the thermal decomposition of bagasse and textile wastes were relatively similar, expressed in three stages: dehydration, volatile matter decomposition, and char oxidation.

  • Energy requirement for cutting of different biomass materials depends on their properties and size which plays an important role in gasification process. In present study, the cutting energy required by the size reduction machine to cut selected different biomass materials viz., Pigeon pea stalk (Cajanus cajan), Cotton stalk (Gossypium hirsutum) and vilatyee babool (Prosopis juliflora) into different length of sizes viz., 25-50, 50-75 and 75-100 mm was assessed. And also their physico-chemical and thermal properties were determined using the standard procedure.

  • Coconut shells were used as a raw material to produce powdered adsorbent carbon of size less than 2mm. The pH, electrical conductivity, proximate analysis (moisture content, volatile matter, ash content and fixed carbon content), ultimate analysis (Carbon, Hydrogen, Nitrogen and Sulphur content), bulk density, particle density, total organic carbon and yield (percentage recovery) were analyzed as per the standard procedures. The raw material of about 20 kg was converted to adsorbent carbon of about 6 kg through thermochemical conversion in the absence of oxygen.

  • This paper presents some statistical results of calculating the correlation coe cient of technical characteristics including content of gross calorific value, volatile matter, moisture, ash and sulfur among the coal mines of Na Duong (Lang Son), Ho Thien (Dong Trieu - QN); Khanh Hoa (Thai Nguyen); Thung Than (Nam Mau - QN); Mong Duong (Cam Pha - QN); Uong Thuong (Uong Bi - QN). The analytical results show that the correlation coe cient of technical characteristics of coals from various coal mines is not high.
