  • In order to get a better insight into the relationship between molecular structure and photovoltaic performance, six monoazo dye molecules containing benzoic and cinnamic acid moieties were synthesized and their photovoltaic properties were studied. Three of them have not been previously used in solar cells. Spectroscopic measurements of the investigated compounds coupled with theoretical calculations were performed. Short-circuit current density, open-circuit voltage, and fill-factor were determined.

  • In this paper, we report the synthesis of rGO-TiO2 nanocomposite electrode and its effect on the performance of DSCs. The nanocomposite rGO-TiO2 photoelectrode was examined by means of current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of the solar cell when illuminated and in the dark. The results indicate that, unlike the Nb2O5 that forms an energy barrier at the surface and SrTiO3 that shifts the conduction band of the TiO2 in the negative direction, rGO doping allows more dye to be adsorbed due its large surface area thus improving the light harvesting efficiency (LHE).

  • Low-cost carbon powder prepared by carbonization of bamboo wood was characterized by means of X-rays diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectroscopy. The structural analysis of the carbon powder shows that the material is the composite of amorphous and graphitic forms of carbon. Furthermore, the carbon powder was used as the counter electrode material of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) and the electric property of the bamboo carbon based counter electrode was investigated by obtaining current-voltage (I-V) curve of the DSC.

  • The electrodes after being sensitized with dye “N179” were combined with Pt counter electrodes and iodine-based electrolyte to make DSSC cells. I-V characteristics of the DSSC cells were recorded at room temperature. The open-circuit voltage (Voc), the short-current density (Jsc) and the photoelectric conversion efficiency η) of the DSSC cells were estimated. The results show that the graphene content added into TiO2 electrode films has affected on Voc, Jsc and η of cells in the nonlinear form. The efficiency reached a maximal value with a graphene concentration of 0.005 wt %.
