In this study, marine debris with a size ≥ 5 mm was collected at seven locations along the coastline of Nha Trang during both dry and rainy seasons, accruing a total of 4436 items. During the rainy season, most beaches had more debris than that in the dry season, and marine debris density ranged between 0.009 items/m2 to 0.418 items/m2 . Results from the beach cleanliness index (CCI) assessment showed that CCI values ranged from 0.2 to 4.4 during the dry season, with beaches classified as either very clean or clean.

Sugarcane bagasse ash (SCBA) is an industrial waste that consists of silicon oxides, calcium, aluminum, iron, magnesium, and alkali metal oxides. The composition and structure of thermomechanical treated SCBA was analyzed by X-ray fluorescence (XRF), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and X-Ray diffraction (XRD). Thermomechanical treated SCBA was mixed with clay, quartz and feldspar at different compositions according to an appropriate mixing ratio and using this mixture for the production of dry pressed ceramic tiles.

Flame retardants (FRs) play an important role as additives which is applied in a wide range of products because they can inhibit ignition to delay the spread of fire. By adding fly ash (a waste of thermal power plants), we have developed an epoxy resin material with good flame retardant properties. Besides, using the fly ash can reduce the consumption of current flame retardants (organic halogen compounds) and thus meet the environmental safety of flame retardant epoxy resin.

The increase in solid waste volume and change in composition due to urban development cause negative effects on the marine ecological environment. The aim of this study was to assess the amount of plastic waste leaking into the environment from the municipal solid waste (MSW) management system and propose mitigation measures towards sustainable development in Hue city, Viet Nam.

Ebook "Soluble bio-based substances isolated from urban wastes: Environmental applications" gives a summary of the soluble bio-based substances (SBO) field. Urban bio-wastes of differing compositions and ageing conditions represent a promising source of soluble bio-based substances (SBO), potentially able to perform as chemical auxiliaries for applications in the chemical industry and in environmental remediation. In particular, SBO process development, characterization and scale-up is described and bioassay studies discussed.

Rice husk (RH), an inexpensive waste material, was used to produce nanosilica that was then applied to fabricate composite with natural rubber. The optimization of process parameters on the weight of nanosilica using the Taguchi method was performed. Experimental specimens were then made to confirm optimum values for each process parameter.

A single anthropometric index such as stunting, wasting, or underweight does not show the holistic picture of under-five children’s undernutrition status. To alleviate this problem, we adopted a multifaceted single index known as the composite index for anthropometric failure (CIAF). Using this undernutrition index, we investigated the disparities of Ethiopian under-fve children’s undernutrition status in space and time.

Marine debris assessment gives information about their quantity, type, and composition, which provides data to help with their management and control. The authors conducted two surveys at three beaches at Sam Son, Hai Tien, Hai Hoa) in Thanh Hoa province in March 2020 and July 2020, respectively, during an inactive and active tourism period. A total of 3,803 waste units were collected for assessment, of which plastic waste accounts for more than 98%.

The present work examıned the use of biochar derived from tea waste as a novel electrode material. For the fabrication of the biochar electrode, suitable amounts of biochar and graphite were mixed with mineral oil for the first time. The electrochemical performance of the biochar-modified carbon paste electrode (BCPE) was measured by various cyclic voltammetric reactions for several redox systems. The factors affecting the electrode kinetics of BCPE surfaces were examined and optimized. The BCPE was applied as transducer in a glucose biosensor.
