Ebook "Abatement techniques for reducing emissions from livestock buildings" identifies future scientific research priorities for developing emissions inventories, emissions abatement techniques and mitigation strategies in order to improve and sustain livestock production that is in line with climate change adaptation. This book provides solutions on how to abate these emissions by using effective abatement techniques such as additives, manure storage covers, aerobic and anaerobic treatments, and dietary manipulation.

Vietnam’s young plastic industry plays an important role in economic development recently. Plastic recycling (PR) is necessary to help companies economically manage their input materials and reduce the amount of solid waste disposal in its surroundings. Improper management of PR activities causes some environmental pollution problems and greenhouse gases (GHGs) released from these activities are core concerns.

A Radioactive Waste Information Management System (RAWINGS) currently in operation mainly manages the inventory and history of the operating waste. The system has the disadvantages of the entered information needing to be transferred manually from the site to the system, information getting incorrectly entered during the process or information going missing.

Waste recycle have been strongly focusing in Vietnam. However secondary environmental effects of the recycling activities have been debatable. This study produces a life cycle inventory (LCI) data set of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) packages in the country with further analysis for biggest PET users such as electronic sectors and/or food processing sectors. Loop recycling allocations are approached to calculate GHGs emission and solid waste in the life cycle of 1 ton of PET packages.

This paper presents results of GHG calculations in agriculture, waste and buildings in Ho Chi Minh City applying the 2006 IPCC guideline. It is found that greenhouse gases in Ho Chi Minh were about 1.1 million, 3 million and 0.4 million tons of CO2 equivalent in agriculture, waste and buildings, respectively.

The critical factors in most cases are related to transportation, warehousing costs on the one hand and waste of time as a result of delays on the other. The optimal decision has to be reached considering the choice between centralized and decentralized inventory policies together with the choice of choosing the right combination of transportation modes.

An inventory of all the chemicals including pharmaceuticals was made and a special task force was formed to advise the government on proper disposal system. Many donors were approached to provide financial assistance for the disposal but the response was until 1995 when the Netherlands government offered 1.5 million USD for the whole exercise which involved repacking, recollection in special centers and finally to remove the chemicals including pharmaceuticals to be incinerated in the UK. Rechem Company was contracted to do the job and 400 tons were removed in 1995.

The verifiability requirement prevents the full capitalization of future cash flow effects in earnings. When future net cash inflows are highly probable from an outlay, but their magnitude is not verifiable, the accrual process generally excludes the outlay from current earnings and capitalizes the cost as an asset (e.g., cash outlays for the purchase of inventory or plant). The effect of the exclusion of future cash inflows and their associated current outlays from earnings on the time series properties of earnings is 'a priori' unclear.

A further example of process redesign for manufacturability is Boeing’s Point of Use system for chemical materials. This enables the storage of materials where the production process utilizes them, as opposed to the previous system which utilized centralized chemical disbursement centers that entailed frequent machinist travel over substantial distances and greater overall chemical usage and waste. Generally, point of use efforts enable the storage of materials where the production process utilizes them.

The quantities of mercury being handled by Canada’s waste management sector are very large. According to the most recent data (2001) from Canada’s National Pollutant Release Inventory, five of the top ten companies reporting were waste management companies. These companies reported mercury releases and transfers of 28,674 kg in one year. When one considers that mercury pollution is often measured in milligrams, and methylmercury levels in fish are measured in micrograms, the NPRI data suggest that Canada still has a long way to go in achieving mercury use reductions that protect ecosystems.

In the United States industry is the greatest source of pollution, accounting for more than half the volume of all water pollution and for the most deadly pollutants. Some 370,000 manufacturing facilities use huge quantities of freshwater to carry away wastes of many kinds. The waste-bearing water, or effluent, is discharged into streams, lakes, or oceans, which in turn disperse the polluting substances. In its National Water Quality Inventory, reported to Congress in 1996, the U.S.

Every year in the U.S. factories release over 3 million tons of toxic chemicals into the land, air and water. This hazardous waste causes us to lose over 15 million acres of land every year, it leads to respiratory complications and other health problems and it makes our rivers and lakes too polluted for us to swim in and drink.
