Water harvesting structure
-
The study revealed that structures could retain water up to 273 days, which suggests a great possibility to use harvested surface runoff to improve the catchment's agricultural output if the water can be used wisely.

Leh district is situated between 31-36° N latitude and 76-80° E longitude with an altitude ranging from 2500 to 6000 m above mean sea level. Leh is the largest district in the country with an area of 45,100 Km2 . Agriculture is the main occupation of the rural people of the district. It was observed that traditional recharge structure practiced in Ladakh was locally called as Zing. Snow is an important source of water in cold arid regions, and the moisture from it is much more efficiently stored in soil than from rain. Artificial glaciers have been innovated.

The present study was undertaken to prepare land use plan for Dorika watershed of Sivasagar District in Assam based on soil site suitability evaluation of crops. The area coverage of this watershed comprises between 260 ׳48 to 270 ׳03 N latitude and 940 ׳27 to 940 ׳52 E longitude. The watershed boundaries were delineated based on Survey of India toposheet (1:50,000) no. 83J/13, 83J/9, 83I/12 and I/8 and. R2 L4 MX Remote sensing data.

The study mainly focused on the water harvesting structures adopted by farmers in dry land areas of Tamil Nadu. The study was conducted in four districts of Tamil Nadu such as Virudhunagar, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai and Madurai based on the maximum area under dry lands condition. In these locale, the villages were selected by appraisal of several indicators namely rainfall, climate conditions, livelihood analysis and overall agriculture development. Participatory Rural Appraisal methodology was adopted to identify and gather information about the water harvesting practices for water saving.

Quantitative analysis of geomorphometric parameters of Ozat river basin using remote sensing and GIS
The present investigation intends to examinations the morphometric attributes of Ozat River basin to comprehend the hydrogeological behavior and influence on hydrology of the basin. The basic and derived morphometric parameters (linear, areal and relief aspects of drainage network) for the basin were determined using ASTER DEM (30 m resolution),remotely sensed images of Linear Imaging Self Scanner III (LISS III) and Geographic Information System (GIS).

Rural development as an integrated concept of growth and poverty elimination has been of paramount concern in all the consequent Government Schemes. The major challenge for our Governments is to offer solution that enables rain fed farming towards sustainable agriculture. “Krishi Bhagya” is the Government„s flagship programme is a step towards to achive sustainability among rainfed farmers of the state. Government is supporting farmers to make a farm pond with polythene lining (to prevent percolation), install pump and sprinkler irrigation system (for efficient water utilization).

A statistical study on the impact of rain water harvesting on groundwater levels and farming economy
The present investigation was carried out in Dharwad Taluk (Karnataka) during 2007- 2008, to evaluate the influence of weather parameter on ground water level and the impact of Rain Water Harvesting on farming economy. Monthly data on weather parameters and ground water level recorded by District Statistical Office, Main Research Station Dharwad and Department of Mines and Geology Dharwad respectively for 28 years were collected. Primary data were collected from the randomly selected 60 sample farmers of both with and without Rain Water Harvesting Systems.

Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) is a deciduous shrub, native to Iran. Now-a-days, besides its use as a fruit, its medicinal properties have attracted the interest of researchers of many countries. Both in vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated how this fruit acts as antioxidant, antidiabetic, hypolipidemic, antiviral, and anticarcinogenic activities. The fruit also improves cardiovascular and oral health.

Healthy soil is the foundation of organic farming. Regular additions of organic matter in the form of cover crops, compost, or manure create a soil that is biologically active, with good structure and capacity to hold nutrients and water (note that any raw manure applications must occur at least 120 days before harvest). Decomposing plant materials will activate a diverse pool of microbes, including those that break down organic matter into plant-available nutrients, as well as others that compete with plant pathogens in the soil and on the root surface.

LIFE ON EARTH ULTIMATELY DEPENDS ON ENERGY derived from the sun. Photosynthesis is the only process of biological importance that can harvest this energy. In addition, a large fraction of the planet’s energy resources results from photosynthetic activity in either recent or ancient times (fossil fuels). This chapter introduces the basic physical principles that underlie photosynthetic energy storage and the current understanding of the structure and function of the photosynthetic apparatus (Blankenship 2002). The term photosynthesis means literally “synthesis using light.

Permanent grass cover crop is a technique used in the vineyards of Villa Bel-Air. As a result, the grass absorbs the water and the nutrients from the top layer of the soil, and forces the vine roots to go deeper and deeper to find nourishment. Throughout the year, de-budding, leaf-thinning and crop thinning are performed by the technical team. All of these manual operations ensure the perfect health and maturity of each bunch. The harvested grapes are then transferred onto a modern sorting table to remove all remaining vegetal matter.

Reducing evaporation losses and optimizing the use of soil moisture Windbreaks can be non-living structures such as brushwood and woven palm-frond fences or living hedges such as lines of shrubs, trees or tall grasses. In areas prone to wind they give shelter to crops and reduce evaporation of soil moisture
