Ebook "Freshwater animal diversity assessment" gives a state of the art assessment of the diversity and distribution of Metazoa in the continental waters of the world. The project deals with all major animal groups plus the macrophytes, and encompasses the complete array of terrestrial aquatic ecosystems. It is the most comprehensive study of species- and genus-level diversity and chorology of the global freshwater fauna to date, and is the first to present comparable data on the different faunal groups concerned.

The antibacterial agent triclosan (TCS) is added to many daily-used consumer products and can therefore reach the aquatic environment via treated wastewater and potentially harm aquatic ecosystems. A 120 days pond mesocosm study was conducted in order to investigate the fate of TCS in water and sediment, its bioaccumulative potential in different biota as well as the effects of TCS and its main transformation product methyl-triclosan (MTCS) on plankton, periphyton, macrophytes, and benthos communities.

Aquatic macrophytes are one of the key components of freshwater ecosystems and contribute to ecosystem functioning and environmental sustainability. They are assumed to be an ideal biomonitoring tool in long-term monitoring programs implemented by the EU Water Framework Directive due to their sensitivity to environmental factors. Therefore, this study focuses on the evaluation of the ecological status in Lake Sapanca using macrophyte composition and abundance in order to make future predictions on the health of aquatic ecosystems and to form effective management.

This study focused on a) determining spatial and temporal counts of bacteria using the Most Probable Number method (MPN), and b) evaluating the findings in terms of quality parameters of the sediment, sediment pore water and overlying water. Accordingly, surface sediment and water samples were taken at two stations located in areas of the pond, fed by groundwater polluted by agricultural runoff, with and without macrophytes in January, April, July and October 2017.
