Water quality assessment for drinking
-
Gia, Re, and Da Do Rivers are the main surface water resources providing fresh water to the habitants of Hai Phong City. They are at risk of water pollution due to the release of multiple waste streams along the rivers. The main objective of this study is to establish water quality models for Gia, Re, and Da Do Rivers using the MIKE 11 Ecolab model.

The results revealed that surface water possessed more potential non-carcinogenic harmful health risks to the residents of the study area to compare to groundwater. As regards carcinogenic health risks, on average there is a possibility of 5 persons in every 106 developing cancer due to lifetime exposure to Cd through ingestion of groundwater.

The study was conducted to understand the ground water quality by using different irrigation water suitability indices in Guntur channel command area for drinking and irrigation purpose. Total twenty five ground water samples were collected during post and pre-monsoon season. Physicochemical parameters like pH, electrical conductivity, calcium, magnesium, carbonates, bicarbonates, sodium, total dissolved solids, total suspended solids were analysed using standard procedures. The values obtained were compared with the standards of BIS and WHO.

Due to industrialization and urbanization the problem of providing good quality water for drinking and irrigation has become very critical now in Karur district. Hence, in this study, emphasis has been given to water quality for drinking and irrigation in Karur district. In order to assess the groundwater quality, samples were collected from Aravakurichi and K.

The presence of Blue-green algae (BGA) toxins in surface water sources and recreation is receiving increasing attention around the world as a public health concern. However, potential risks from exposure to these toxins in contaminated health food products that contain BGA have been largely ignored. Toxic BGA produces compound called microcystin. Fine-grained sediment is a natural and essential component of river systems and plays a major role in the hydrological, geo-morphological and ecological functioning of rivers.

Groundwater is one of the crucial natural resources which meets the requirement of drinking as well as for irrigation. Increasing population, erratic distribution of rainfall and their rising demand for water in domestic and irrigation is fulfilled by groundwater resources. Hence, a geo-spatial study was conducted for groundwater sampling for water quality assessment to determine the suitability of water for drinking and irrigation purpose. For this study, five villages around AEC & RI, Kumulur, Trichy, Tamil Nadu were selected as a study area with an aerial extent of 45.1 km2 .

A study was carried out in selected blocks to assess the ground water quality in nine blocks in tribal districts of Madhya Pradesh. The various trace constituents (zinc, copper, cadmium, lead, nickel, manganese and chromium) were analyzed in at ground water quality in open well. The results were compared with standard permissible limits of BIS, Royal Irrigation Department and FAO which show all ground water samples of study area in 2013-14 were fall in ―good to permissible limit‖ category and suitable for drinking and irrigation purpose.

In Burkina Faso, despite the strengthening of food security and household incomes, the malnutrition in market gardeners children remains a concern in some regions. This study aims to assess drinking water quality and intestinal parasitic infections in two market garden sites to understand the persistence of malnutrition in these children.Drinking water (n=43) and stools(n=96) from children aged06-59 months were analyzed. Stool samples were subjected to the Kato-Katz and a formalin-ether concentration method for the diagnosis of helminths and intestinal protozoa infections.

The quality of drinking water is an important environmental determinant of health. In present study, carried out of physico-chemical analysis of drinking water like public drinking water, surface water, ground water and animal drinking water were collected from different parts of urban and peri-urban areas of Udaipur. Parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness, nitrate, fluoride, iron, chloride and residual free chlorine were analyzed and range were founded 6.80 to 8.

Report on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Zimbabwe pointed out that notwithstanding the poor performance of the economy, Zimbabwe has made relative progress in a number of key areas such as universal primary education. Enrolment in primary schools has consistently been relatively high (with a net enrollment ratio of 91% in 2009 down from 98.5% in 2002). The rate of HIV infection has also seen an improvement with a decline from 16.1 percent in 2007 to 13.7 percent by 2009 partly on account of public awareness programs and education.

The deterioration of water quality in China seriously affects the inhabitants. For example, the residents in Chongqing and Guangyuan are suffering from diseases due to water pollution from industrial wastewater (Searchina 2004ab). Another serious problem is unsafe drinking water. According to Chinanet (2005), 300 million people in China cannot drink water which passes the standard for safe drinking, and some people in villages are suffering from diseases due to unsafe drinking water, like in Chongqing and Guangyuan.

This project has demonstrated the current interest in assessing and distinguishing the impacts on biodiversity of climate change and atmospheric pollution. It is strongly recommended that this proposal is used as the basis to decide whether or not to pursue and implement the new network. It has provided recommendations and options for an implementation plan and estimated costs. It has also shown that it will be most important to establish the right organisational framework, obtain agreement between parties and sufficient funding.

The quality of water, whether it is used for drinking, irrigation or recreational purposes, is significant for health in both developing and developed countries worldwide. Water quality can have a major impact on health, both through outbreaks of waterborne disease and by contributing to the background rates of disease. Accordingly, countries develop water quality standards to protect public health.

The ready availability of carbon through the exploitation of hydrocarbon oil reserves over the past century has lead to a vast amount of organic compounds being introduced into the environment either through the use of oil in fuels or the development and production of other chemical products by industry. Literally tens of thousands of synthetic organic chemicals have been and continue to be developed. Many organic chemicals are known to have potential human health impacts and drinking-water quality standard listings developed.
