  • With Beech veneers being treated with 10% solid content of the chemicals from paper (Alkyl ketene dimer, AKD), wood (N-methylol melamine, NMM-1) and textile industry (fatty acid modified N-methylol melamine, mNMM-2), the results showed that the treatments with these chemicals considerably increased the water repellence effectiveness (WRE) of veneers in the initial submersion phases. In this paper, veneers treated with Nmethylol melamine and AKD chemicals were investigated on water/moisture related properties and their stability after cyclic tests.

  • Ebook "An introduction to the physical chemistry of food" introduces the physical chemistry essential to understanding the behavior of foods. Starting with the simplest model of molecules attracting and repelling one another while being moved by the randomizing effect of heat, the laws of thermodynamics are used to derive important properties of foods such as flavor binding and water activity.

  • This study presents a cheap and facile method to fabricate the functional surface on Tole substrate for water repellent and dust removal application. Bare Tole substrate was initially ground using sandpaper to generate the microscale structures and followed by the wet etching method using an acid solution to create the hierarchical structure.

  • This paper presents a simple process of fabricating a superhydrophobic carbon steel surface with high water repellence and good corrosion resistance. The steel surface was covered by thin ZnO layers via various methods of sol-gel method, hydrothermal synthesis, and electrochemical deposition, then further functionalised with methyl trichlorosilane.

  • In this paper, Nuva1811, Ruco Dry ECO, FW-500D were evaluated the impact on viscose fabric. The efficiency of the process implementation was determined by measuring and analyzing the physical properties of fabric samples. Viscose fabric treated with Nuva 1811 60 g/l was evalutated the high water repellency with level 4 after finishing. However, the washing fastness properties was decreased slightly. When applied in the fiber, the polymer will form a structure that presents CF3 outer surface for maximum repellency.

  • The major component of Eucalyptus globulus is 1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol) and has been recognized as a high ovipositional repellent and mild mosquito feeding repellent [8]. Chemical instability, volatility, propensity for oxidation and poor water solubility of essential oils make them inconvenient for extensive use [9]. Cymbopogon winterianus, commonly known as citronella, is native to the tropical and subtropical areas, consisting of citronellol, citronellal, and geraniol as its major compounds [10]. Cymbopogon oil has been proven to exhibit low acute toxicity in laboratory animals [11].

  • Waxes are esters of long-chain fatty acids with long-chain fatty alcohols found abundant in the environment in various forms. Bacteria degrading these waxes in agricultural residues, soils and insects are gaining increased attention. In India, about 500 million tonnes of crop residues are generated annually and these crop residues are rich in cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, pectin, cutin, waxes, fats and oils. Accumulation of waxy rich crop residues in the environment decreases the rate of decomposition and increase the hydrophobicity of soils.

  • Role of vermicompost in nourishing agricultural crops has attracted the attention of researchers throughout the globe in past few decades. Vermicompost is the method of using earthworms to transform organic waste into nutrient rich compost. The earthworms’ casting is nutritive organic manure rich in humus, NPK, micronutrients, beneficial microbes, antibiotics, enzymes, growth hormones, etc. There are many reports in literature showing beneficial effects of imbedding vermicompost in soil.

  • But with other POPs the transition to safer alternatives will require more effort. Alternatives may be more expensive and their manufacture and use more complicated. That could put developing countries in an awkward spot – struggling from day to day, the world's poor tend to use what they can afford and what is available. So it is not enough for the Convention simply to say No to its target list of POPs: It must also help governments find a way to say Yes to replacement solutions. Take the case of DDT.

  • Two types of finishes help protect fabrics. Silicone (such as Sylmer) finishes repel water-based substances. Fluorochemical (such as Scotchguard, Zepel) finishes protect against both water-based and oil-based spills. Both types of finishes repel spills long enough to be wiped up, but they do not replace cleaning. These finishes are applied to the fabric surface and will wear off after extended use and cleaning. • Introduction: Nowadays, p-dichlorobenzene (paradichlorobenzene, 1,4-dichlorobenzene) is becoming more popular than naphthalene as a moth repellant (insecticide) worldwide. The discrimination between p-dichlorobenzene and naphthalene is usually difficult only by their smells and their appearances. However, specific gravities of their crystals are different; they are 1.152 and 1.5 for naphthalene and p-dichlorobenzene, respectively.
