  • The present study was conducted to evaluate mango (Mangifera indica L.) rootstocks under induced moisture stress condition for various morpho-physiological traits. The result revealed that the rootstock Totapuri recorded minimum plant height (23.55 cm), stem diameter (1.16 cm), leaf area (380.30cm²), stomatal density (78.36 No./mm²), plant biomass (98.00 g) and maximum relative water content (90.26 %).

  • A study was conducted to investigate the effect of drought on physiological characteristics in twelve sunflower genotypes. Moisture stress treatment were imposed at flower bud initiation stage (irrigation withheld from 40 DAS to 60 DAS) whereas, Control plots were irrigated at 10 days intervals throughout the crop growth period. Results revealed that water stress showed repressing effect on Relative water content, Photosynthetic rate, leaf fluorescence, membrane leakage, chlorophyll content and specific leaf area in all the genotypes examined.

  • Studies on soybean GmNAC085 transcription factor revealed that the gene expression in plants was induced by water shortage treatments and its overexpression in the model plant Arabidopsis displayed improved plant tolerance characteristics towards drought stress. In this study, we continued analyzing the biological functions of GmNAC085 using transgenic soybean system overexpressing GmNAC085 gene, by targeting at a number of plant physiological features and biochemical activities in response to limited water growing condition.

  • The drought tolerance of Brassica juncea genotypes viz., Kranti RSPR-03, RSPR-01, Pusa Bold and NRCDR-2 was investigated after exposure to at various growth stages in a pot experiment. Water stress imposed at branch initiation, flower initiation and siliquae formation stages in the form of 45, 60 and 90 (DAS) days after sowing. Various physiological and reproductive behavior were recorded which revealed significant differences among the various Brassica juncea genotypes.

  • A field experiment was conducted during Rabi 2015 in a Randomized block design (RBD) with three replications to screen 12 hybrid maize germplasm lines viz., Z630-1, Z630-2, Z630-3, Z630-4, Z637-1, Z637-2, Z695-1, Z695-2, Z695-3, Z638-1, Z638-2, Z638-3 along with three hybrid checks NK6240, P1O3396 and 900MGold. This study was carried out to screen the hybrid germplasm lines exposed to water deficit stress during the reproductive growth stage. The analysis of variance revealed significant differences among the test germplasm line for all the parameters recorded.

  • Drought stress is the major environmental stress that affects plant growth and productivity. It triggers a wide range of responses detectable at molecular, biochemical and physiological levels. At the molecular level the response to drought stress results in the differential expression of several metabolic pathways.

  • aro [Colocasia esculenta (L.) Schott] is one of the tropical tuber crops hailed as food security crop in tropics especially in developing nations. Tropical tuber crops are famously known for their withstanding capacity under harsh and marginal environments. But the severe reduction has been reported in taro biochemical, physiological parameters and corm yield under water deficit stress in spite of inherent drought tolerance capacity. Meager information is available pertaining to biochemical, physiological variations and tolerance mechanisms under water stress in taro.

  • Productivity of rice is negatively affected by drought. Morpho-physiological traits are key for plant adaptation under water stress condition. This study was conducted with the objective to study the 49 local land races of rice including checks in field and PVC pipes for screening drought tolerant genotypes based on their yield performance and the effect of various physiological traits associated with drought tolerance were studied. Results revealed significant yield decline in almost all the genotypes studied under drought condition as compared to irrigated condition.
