  • Drag reduction in fully developed turbulent pipe flow with 4 concentrations (200 to 500 wppm or mg/kg) of low molecular weight sodium carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) in aqueous solutions was investigated experimentally. Drag reduction was determined by pressure drop measurements. Maximum drag reduction achieved was 22% using 500 wppm CMC solution. To observe the impact of the presence of CMC on the flow, ultrasound Doppler velocimetry (UDV) was employed to monitor the instantaneous velocity distributions.

  • This paper presents the research results of theoretical model and numerical model of the washed-out process of alkylphenols in the late stage of water injection. The research results have proposed approximate analytical expression for concentration of alkylphenols at the late stage of water flooding. In this regard, at the sufficient large injection volume the alkylphenol concentration attenuates exponentially and the attenuation rate depends on parameters such as partitioning coefficient, oil saturation and interstitial velocity of water and oil and diffusion coefficients.

  • In order to reduce the serious impacts of industrial and agricultural wastes on the environment, raw rice husk and bottom ash were used as fine aggregates, while fly ash was utilized as a binder material in the production of unburnt building bricks. Two group mixtures were designed with water-to-binder (W/B) ratios of 0.30 and 0.35. The rice husk was used to replace 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9% of bottom ash content by mass.

  • This study addresses, to some extent, the effect of the seeding-particle concentration on the results of spike-excitation UVP measurements. For the investigation, experimental measurements of water pipe flow have been carefully executed for a wide range of the particle concentration. The dependence of the measured data on the particle concentration is evaluated and reported. The result of this study suggests an appropriate range of the seeding-particle concentration in setting up spike-excitation UVP measurements.

  • In order to investigate hydrodynamic phenomena in two-phase flow conditions in nuclear safety analysis, a series of two-phase flow experiments were conducted using a single flow channel in which air and water were simultaneously injected into the test section. The experiments under atmospheric pressure conditions were carried out with the water velocity and the air velocity covering the ranges from 0.2 to 1.5 m/s and 0.05 to 0.2 m/s, respectively.

  • Numerical models that calculate bed change are becoming increasingly popular because of their longterm forecast projections and their ability to identify causes of bed change. However, the reliability of the simulation results depends on the length of the data series and the algorithms in the model, in which the boundary condition method plays a critical role. The aim of this study is to assess the effectiveness of the HYDIST model to update wet and dry fronts as well as recalculate the wet boundaries of the hydraulic model before its input into the sediment transport model.

  • Testing of agricultural sprinklers is necessary to find the optimum field operating conditions with minimum cost while satisfying design water distribution criteria. In the present study two twin-nozzle agricultural sprinklers were tested in field under ten different operating pressures ranging from 1.6 kg/cm² to 3.5 kg/cm². In each experiment sprinkler discharge rate, nozzle pressure, radius of throw, and water distribution pattern around the sprinkler were observed. The average discharge coefficients of the two sprinkler nozzles were determined.

  • Evaporative cooling system is one of the cooling techniques, but the limitation is that cooling can be done up to wet bulb temperature only, so a study has been taken up to design, develop a two-stage evaporative cooling system. Cooling performance of twostage indirect/direct evaporative cooling system was experimentally investigated. For this purpose, a two-stage evaporative cooling experimental setup consisting of an indirect cooling stage (IDC) followed by a direct evaporative cooling stage (DEC) was designed, constructed and tested.

  • This paper presents an experimental study of adhesive and rheological properties of cement mortars proportioned with various contents of a water-soluble polymer admixture. To determine the adhesive properties the probe tack test was used. The results have been exploited to identify the adhesion strength, the cohesion strength and the support’ adherence force. It is found that the cohesion component displays a minimum when varying the polymer content. The behavior of the adherence force is more complex.

  • While construction of the Aswan High Dam (AHD) has stopped concurrent flooding events, River Nile is still subject to low intensity flood waves resulting from controlled release of water from the dam reservoir. Analysis of flow released from New Naga-Hammadi Barrage, which is located at 3460 km downstream AHD indicated an increase in magnitude of flood released from the barrage in the past 10 years. A 2D numerical mobile bed model is utilized to investigate the possible morphological changes in the downstream of Naga-Hammadi Barrage from possible higher flood releases.

  • In practice, the location of riverside water intakes is chosen based on land-property considerations rather than strict design criteria. For power plants intakes, abstraction efficiency is directly affected by the uniformity of flow distribution within the intake structure. The intake structure of South Helwan Power Plant (SHPP) is located downstream a Groin Like Formation (GLF) at the right bank of the Nile River, South Cairo, Egypt. This GLF disrupted the uniformity of flow approaching the intake.

  • Reactive Powder Concrete (RPC) is a type of ultra-high strength concrete. Due to its dense microstructure, is vulnerable to explosive spalling at elevated temperatures. Remarkable application of RPC in special structures throughout the world has drawn the attention to understand the performance of RPC at elevated temperatures, which has not been investigated extensively yet. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the performance of RPC at elevated temperatures from 200 C to 800 C, by obtaining residual mechanical properties after exposure.
