In solving the problem, this study developed a calibration procedure of HEC-HMS model with four steps for reducing parameter’s uncertainty and improving model performance, which include (1) identifying the number of sub-basin, (2) determining the optimal combination of loss model and transform model, (3) finding out the sensitive model parameters, and (4) further calibrating model.

The discussions revolve around the economic, social and environmental dimensions of this subject. Of particular interest is water, perhaps one of the most critical resources for human survival. Herein we used exploratory research, with a qualitative nature, to develop a conceptual model that adopts a prescriptive approach to identify ways of assessing, integrating and complementing concepts related to the sustainable management of watersheds.

Kuthanagere micro watershed is located in Ramanagar district. It was developed in 1995 with bench mark information on GIS and monitored for 19 years for changes in soil- site characteristics. The normal annual rainfall of the Kuthanagere watershed was 1027.6 mm in 45 rainy days. The area under 3 to 5 per cent slope was considerably reduced (by 6 %) as against increase in area (by 13 %) under 1 to 3 per cent slope class. Further the area under moderate erosion was decreased by 4.66 per cent and that became qualified under none to slight erosion class.

A rainfall – runoff model describes the relation between the rainfall and runoff for a particular catchment area. The relationship between rainfall in a period and the corresponding runoff is quite complex. SCS-CN method is used to estimate the runoff, but, SCS-CN method does not consider the impact of rainfall intensity and did not account for the influence of forest management practices. The aim of this study is to develop Fuzzy Logic Model to estimate runoff using rainfall given for the area under consideration.

The study was undertaken in Western Undulating Agro-Climatic zone covering Kalahandi and Nuapara districts in Odisha dominated by tribal community. A sample size of 192 tribal people was selected randomly from 12 watersheds of four blocks as the respondents of the study. Institutional arrangements, planning, programme development and implementation, funding pattern, monitoring and supervision were selected as the variables for analyzing the constraints.

Mid-Himalayan Watershed Development Project has been reckoned as an instrument to bring the second-generation Green Revolution through, increasing productivity in rainfed areas. The study revealed that the dependency ratio with respect to total workers was found to be 0.40 in case of beneficiary families and 0.26 in case of non- beneficiary families. It was found that with the interventions of the project there has significant change in area of major crops, increase in productivity and net returns of the beneficiary farms.

Thematic maps present information relating to spatial variations in the distribution of specific geographical features at a regional scale or across the entire basin. The spatial distribution of thematic maps aids in decision-making of management of resources. Different thematic maps generated for the Kinnerasani basin include watershed boundary, drainage network, slope map, landuse/landcover map and soil map with the help of Survey of India topographical map and Cartosat DEM. LULC map was developed using IRS P6 LISS III satellite data.

The performance of different neural networks in groundwater level forecasting was examined in order to identify an optimal ANN model for groundwater level forecast. The Devasugur nala watershed was selected for the study, located at northern part of Raichur district Karnataka and comes under middle Krishna river basin.

The study was carried out to develop various thematic maps for a restricted forest watershed named Machhundri, located at Gir Sanctuary of Saurashtra region in Gujarat, India. Different thematic maps comprising of elevation map, aspect map, contour map, land use/land cover map, slope map, drainage map and soil map were generated using remote sensing and GIS methods. Satellite imageries and ArcGIS software were used in the process.

The present study to access the sustainable impact of watershed on the level of economics with especial reference to the beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries for the purpose two districts viz., Dimapur and Zunheboto were selected purposely, while two blocks from each district were randomly selected, out of that 8 numbers of watersheds areas were selected. In the second stage of sampling a multi-stage random sampling was used for the selection of beneficiary and non-beneficiary viz., 160 respondents (80 beneficiaries and 80 non-beneficiaries) by random method from the identified watershed areas.

The study was conducted to assess soil quality in cotton growing environs of Nilona micro-watershed in Yavatmal district, Maharashtra, covering mainly cotton growing areas. One hundred eighteen surface soil samples were identified for determining physical and chemical indicators of soils. A minimum dataset was developed using expert knowledge for identifying soil quality indicators. Soil quality was determined using concept of relative soil quality index (RSQI).

An evaluation was conducted to develop a stochastic time series model, capable of prediction of rainfall and runoff in Karso watershed. The Karso Watershed selected for hydrological studies is one of the sub watershed of the Damoder dam catchment of upper Damodar Valley, comprising a cover the area of 27.41 km2 . The hydrologic sequences data of watershed collected from Soil Conservation Deptt., Damodar Valley Corporation, Hazaribagh, Jharkhand State were analysed.
