This paper presents a new design of Ge20Sb5Se75 large-solid-core- square lattice photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with the first ring of air hole near the core removed. Using the full vector finite element method for anisotropic perfectly matched layers, we numerically examine the dispersion characteristics of the PCF as a function of the wavelength in the mid-infrared range.

In this paper, the nonlinear properties of photonic crystal fibers (PCF) with As2S3 substrate were analyzed numerically. With the suspended-core design, we achieve an anomalous dispersion regime with one or two zero-dispersion wavelengths, which is flat and has a small value at the investigated wavelength.

Characteristics of As2Se3 photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with a solid-core and small-core diameter are numerically investigated in the long-wavelength range (from 2 to 10 μm). The flat dispersion feature, high nonlinearity, and small confinement loss of the proposed photonic crystal fiber structure make it suitable for supercontinuum.

The gross α and β activity concentrations in the thermal waters of Karakaya-Aya¸s, ˙I¸cmece-Aya¸s, Beypazarı (Dutluk-Tahtalı), Haymana, and Kızılcahamam spas in Ankara Province were measured by MPC-9604 multi-detector α/β counting system. Ranges of activity concentrations found were from 0.09 to 2.58 Bq L−1 for gross α and from 0.25 to 2.61 Bq L−1 for gross β. The ranges of minimum detectable concentrations for gross α (0.05–0.41 Bq L−1 ) and for gross β (0.04–0.29 Bq L−1 ) were obtained.

A series of polyoxometalate-based magnetic nanoparticles were developed as novel carriers for anticancer drugs. Characterization of the nanoparticles was done by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), wavelength dispersive X-ray (WDX), and laser particle size analyzer. Epirubicin (EPI) was selected as a model drug. EPI loading efficiency, EPI loading content, and EPI release profiles were studied. Drug loading was controlled using acid-base titration since H + was released during the loading process.

As a result, octave spanning of the SC spectrum was achieved in the wavelength range of near-IR from 1.25 µm to 2.3 µm with 90 fs pulse and energy of 1.5 nJ at a pump wavelength of 1.55 µm. The proposed fibers are fully compatible with all-silica fiber systems, in particular, could be used for all-fiber SC sources and new low-cost all-fiber optical systems.

This paper report simulation results of supercontinuum generation in the suspended-core optical fibers made of chalcogenide (As2S3) infiltrated with water at mid-infrared wavelength range. Applying water-hole instead of the air-hole in fibers allows improving the dispersion characteristics, hence, contributing to supercontinuum generations.

The characteristics of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) with various air hole diameters infiltrated with alcoholic liquids such as ethanol, methanol, propanol and butanol are numerically investigated. Based on the numerical results, we have analyzed and compared in detail the characteristics of these fibers including effective refractive index, effective mode area, dispersion and confinement loss for two sets of parameters {d,Λ} = {1 µm,5 µm} and {1.42 µm, 3.26 µm}, with d the air hole diameter and Λ the lattice constant, respectively.

In this paper, we report a numerical study of the supercoin (SC) generation in solid-core photonic crystal fibers infiltrated with water-ethanol mixtures. A photonic crystal fiber is constructed as borosilicate glass NC21, which consists of 7 rings of air holes infiltrated with water-ethanol mixtures. We also considered numerically the influence of concentration of the ethanol solution on the dispersion of the fundamental mode. SC generation was demonstrated for the fiber long 20 cm with a pump pulse of 200 fs, the coupled energy of 0.

A pilot study has being carried out at our laboratories, with international collaborators, to develop seven certified reference materials (CRMs), which have matrices of mainly soil and biological tissues. The CRMs will be certified for macro-, micro- and trace elements for environmental, toxicology, agronomic and nutritional purposes.

In this paper we review our works in the field of nonlinear optics in waveguide arrays (WAs) and photonic nanowires. We first focus on the new equation governing light propagation in optical fibers with sub-wavelength cores which simultaneously takes into account (i) the vector nature of the electromagnetic modes inside fibers, (ii) the strong dispersion of the nonlinearity inside the spectral body of the pulse, (iii) and the full variations of the vector mode profiles with frequency.

The structure of peptidase T, or tripeptidase, was deter-mined by multiple wavelength anomalous dispersion (MAD) methodology and re®ned to 2.4 A Ê resolution. Pep-tidase T comprises two domains; a catalytic domainwith an active site containing two metal ions, and a smaller domain formed through a long insertion into the catalytic domain. The twometal ions, presumablyzinc, are separatedby3.3 AÊ , and are coordinated by ®ve carboxylate and histidine ligands.
