This study explores if English videos on Facebook can improve speaking skills for freshmen struggling with English. We will divide freshmen into groups: one exposed to curated English videos on Facebook and another with no intervention. Both groups will take speaking tests before and after. By analyzing these tests, we aim to see if the Facebook group improves their fluency, vocabulary, and pronunciation, promoting better English proficiency.

The thesis is a hermeneutic study: it wants to interpret ugliness in fashion. In exposing the mechanics of fashion, in revealing the seams as it were of those traditional drivers of fashion – beauty and glamour – we see the destruction of the illusion of fashion and an unknotting of many of the certainties around how and why we dress the way we do. Thus dressing poor represents a willful instability in its relationship to beauty and offers an alternative way to think through the history of fashion.

This dissertation and project analyse the ongoing crisis in news journalism and evidencebased inquiries. Through practice-led research, the completed prototype Labyrinths & Leaks examines methods for overlapping evidence through the interactive documentary (i-doc) form. This research examines what happens when we break apart narrative sequencing. Rather than a gradual narrowing of the linear storyline, there is a network of openings and opportunities afforded through the i-doc form.

This article draws a state of knowledge of the dissolution of uranium dioxide in nitric acid media. The chemistry of the reaction is first investigated, and two reactions appear as most suitable to describe the mechanism, leading to the formation of monoxide and dioxide nitrogen as reaction by-products, while the oxidation mechanism is shown to happen before solubilization.

Electrokinetic phenomena are induced by the relative motion between a fluid and a solid surface and are directly related to the existence of an electrical double layer with excess charges. In this work, we use a theoretical study of electrokinetics in a narrow cylindrical capillary to obtain the streaming potential and electroosmosis coefficients under the thin double layer assumption.

So you’ve decided it’s time to get serious about social media, and you’re excited to begin building a strategy and a social media team. Whether your team is diving in for the first time, or restructuring an existing strategy so that it becomes more effective, you should aim to answer the following questions for your team. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Why are we engaging in social media? Who should be part of our social media team? Where should our team focus our efforts in social media? What social media content should we monitor and create? How should our...

Vibrio choleraehemolysin (HlyA), a water-soluble protein with a native monomeric relative molecular mass of 65 000, forms transmembrane pentameric channels in target bio-membranes.TheHlyAbinds to lipid vesicles nonspecifically and without saturation; however, self-assembly is triggered specifically by cholesterol. Here we show that the HlyA partitioned quantitatively to amphiphilic media irrespective of their compositions, indicating that the toxin had an amphiphilic surface.

In aqueous media, muscle pyruvate kinase is highly selective for K + over Na + . We now studied the selec-tivity of pyruvate kinase in water/dimethylsulfoxide mix-tures by measuring the activation and inhibition constants of K + and Na + , i.e. their binding to the monovalent and divalent cation binding sites of pyruvate kinase, respect-ively [Melchoir J.B. (1965) Biochemistry4, 1518–1525]. In 40% dimethylsulfoxide theK0.5 appfor K + and Na + were 190 and 64-fold lower than in water.Kiappfor K + and Na +decreased 116 and 135-fold between 20 and 40% dimethylsulfoxide. The ratios of Kiapp/K0.

In this article we compared the metabolism of phosphorylated and unphosphorylated oligosaccharides (cellodextrins and maltodextrins) in Fibrobacter succinogenes S85 resting cells incubated with the following substrates: glucose; cellobiose; a mixture of glucose and cellobiose; and cellulose. Intracellular and extracellular media were analysed by 1 H-NMR and by TLC. The first important finding is that no cellodextrins were found to accumulate in the extracellular media of cells, regardless of the substrate; this contrasts to what is generally reported in the literature....

In this chapter we examine how print advertising enhances the advertiser’s media mix. Newspapers and magazines, with their unique qualities, can complement broadcast, direct mail, and other media. By using print wisely, advertisers can significantly increase the reach and impact of their campaigns and still stay within their budget.

EIGENVALUE PROBLEMS FOR DEGENERATE NONLINEAR ELLIPTIC EQUATIONS IN ANISOTROPIC MEDIA ˘ DUMITRU MOTREANU AND VICENTIU RADULESCU ¸ Received 23 September 2004 and in revised form 26 November 2004 We study nonlinear eigenvalue problems of the type − div(a(x)∇u) = g(λ,x,u) in RN , where a(x) is a degenerate nonnegative weight. We establish the existence of solutions and we obtain information on qualitative properties as multiplicity and location of solutions. Our approach is based on the critical point theory in Sobolev weighted spaces combined with a Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg-type inequality.

Abstract Open reading frame l0045 in the pathogenic island of enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli O157:H7 has been predicted to encode a lytic transglycosylase that is homologous to two different gene products encoded by the same bacteria at loci away from the island. To deduce the necessity of the presence in the island, we created an l0045-deleted strain of EHEC and observed that both the level of cytosolic EspA and that of the other type III secreted proteins in the media were affected.

Migration of vascular smooth muscle cells (SMCs) from the media to intima constitutes a critical step in the development of proliferative vascular diseases. To elucidate the regulatory mechanism of vacular SMC motility, the roles of caldesmon (CaD) and its phosphorylation were investigated. Methods: We have performed Transwell migration assays, immunofluorescence microscopy, traction microscopy and cell rounding assays using A7r5 cells transfected with EGFP (control), EGFP-wtCaD or phosphomimetic CaD mutants, including EGFP-A1A2 (the two PAK sites Ser452...

The realm of aqueous organometallic catalysis incorporates many more reactions and catalysts than discussed in the preceeding chapters. However, these were not investigated in so much detail as, for instance, hydrogenation or hydroformylation; some of them are mentioned only here and there. An attempt is made to give a representative sample of these studies.
