In this work, glycerol and hot-pressing treatment were utilized to enhance the waterresistant and mechanical properties of microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) film. Recently, MFC films have been suggested as promising materials for various applications such as flexible electronics, micro-optical devices, and biosensors.

In this paper, we report in detail the compressive strength of wet granules under a diametrical compression test by means of the discrete element simulations. The numerical method is coupled with the capillary cohesion law which is enhanced by the cohesive forces between grains having a gap not exceeding a rupture distance.

Cellulose nanofibril-based aerogels have promising applicability in various fields; however, developing an efficient technique to functionalize and tune their surface properties is challenging. In this study, physically and covalently crosslinked cellulose nanofibril-based aerogel-like structures were prepared and modified by a molecular layer-by-layer (m-LBL) deposition method.

The thermogravimetric method was used to determinate the kinetic parameters as the activation energy, the pre-exponnential factor and the order of reaction. The three constituents of balsa (i.e. hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin) were well identified and the decomposition temperature region well characterized. The presence of a large quantity of water affects the thermal decomposition behaviour of wood inducing notably a maximal degradation temperature.

The objective of the aircraft and naval industries is the optimization of structures in terms of lightening and strength. Thus, dual material plates, consisting of a light core covered by face sheets, are frequently used instead of solid plates because of their high bending stiffness-to-weight ratio.

The paper shows that the aggregates are ductile and no abrupt rupture due to the rearrangement of primary particles and the tensile effects of the cohesive forces having the direction perpendicular to the impact direction, the mechanical strength of aggregates depends on the liquid properties and the impact speed, and the collapse of the wet granular column strongly depends on the natural properties of the liquid.

In this paper, by replacing a part of heavy (high stiffness) particles with light (low stiffness) particles, we numerical investigate the effects of lightweight particle content on the mechanical strength of wet cylindrical agglomerates under uniaxial compression test. To simplify the model, the deformable characteristics of lightweight particles are neglected, implying that all particles are modeled as rigid grains.

In this paper, Nuva1811, Ruco Dry ECO, FW-500D were evaluated the impact on viscose fabric. The efficiency of the process implementation was determined by measuring and analyzing the physical properties of fabric samples. Viscose fabric treated with Nuva 1811 60 g/l was evalutated the high water repellency with level 4 after finishing. However, the washing fastness properties was decreased slightly. When applied in the fiber, the polymer will form a structure that presents CF3 outer surface for maximum repellency.

The soil cohesion and angle of internal friction depend greatly on the soil moisture. Specifically, soil with a lower moisture content has a higher shearing strength than that in soil with higher moisture content. The finite element modeling of moisture transfers in unsaturated soils through the relationship between soil moisture, soil suction, unsaturated permeability and soilmoisture dispersivity is capable of accurately predicting the wetting front development.

The decrease in strength of tile adhesive mortars during wet storage was investigated. In a first approach, the water resistance of the polymer phases was tested on structures isolated from the mortar and in situ. It was observed that cellulose ether and polyvinyl alcohol structures are water-soluble. Subsequent investigations on polymer mobility within the mortar showed that the migrating pore water transports cellulose ether and polyvinyl alcohol during periods of water intrusion and drying. This leads to enrichments at the mortar – substrate interface.

Three methods: wet, dry and steam explosion were used to extract fibers from bamboo shoot culm sheath. Wet extracting method gave the best bamboo fibers. The fibers got by wet method were flat while using dry methods, fibers were broken on the surface. Bamboo fibers using wet methods gave the highest tensile strength of 272 MPa. After treated with NaOH, the strength of bamboo fibers increased about 20% in comparing with untreated fibers while silane treated make bamboo fibers strength lower about 15%.

The present text concerns the micro-level (particle-level) perspective on the different stages of the granulation process. A range of the newest and advanced quantitative models is presented hereby introducing recent advances in wetting and nucleation modelling, and theory describing granule growth behaviour. The different bonding mechanisms and the strength of liquid bonded particles are emphasised and recent advances in simulation of wet granule breakage is reviewed.
