  • Bananas are among the world‟s leading food crops, after rice, wheat and maize. Banana is a dessert fruit for millions and it contains nearly all the essential nutrients. Banana accounts for 31.7 per cent of the total fruit production in India. It has short shelf life of 6- 10 days under tropical condition. Converting this perishable fresh fruit into shelf stable high value products like powder flour will be of immense value. The present study was undertaken to develop health mix from `Chakkai banana variety.

  • Parameter estimation in statistical modelling plays a crucial role in the real world phenomena. Several alternative analyses may be required for the purpose. An attempt has been made in this paper to estimate the yield of wheat crop using principal components of the weather parameters spread over the crop growth period. Principal component analysis has been used for the purpose of developing zonal yield forecast models because of multicollinearity present among weather variables.

  • Wheat is the most important food crop in India. During 2017-18, India’s harvesting recorded wheat grain production 99.70 mt from 29.58 mha cultivated area. India’s participation in the international wheat trade however is not up to the mark as being a major wheat producer. One of the major constraints in exporting wheat is prevalence of Karnal bunt (KB), internationally quarantined disease in the Indo-gangetic plain, major wheat bowl of the country.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the field performance of self propelled reaper-binder at farmer’s field. The effective field capacity of the reaper binder was found as 0.17 ha h-1 with a field efficiency of 78.49 per cent at an average operating speed of 2.55 km h-1 . The fuel consumption was observed as 1.12 l ha-1 . The harvesting cost and losses were Rs. 3235.11 ha-1 and 25.42 kg ha-1 respectively. The feedback of machine operation was collected by some farmer’s at the time of harvesting and the performance of the reaper binder at the farm was satisfactory.

  • Pre harvest forecast of agricultural production is essentially required for food security point of view. In this paper attempt has been made to develop model for forecasting the yield of kharif (Groundnut, paddy, maize) and rabi (wheat and mustard) crop of different district of middle Gujarat and north Gujarat using regression technique. The model were developed base on 30 years (1985 to 2015) district wise crop yield and weekly meteorological data and validated with 2 years (2010-11 & 2011-12) and forecast were issued for 2012-13.

  • The district Kapurthala is a fully diversified in cultivation of crops as the major cropping sequence followed is paddy-wheat, paddy-potato-muskmelon/watermelon/spring maize/ vegetables. The area under two crops namely sunflower and summer moong is uncertain and depends on the selling rate prevalent in the market at the time of harvesting and ease of marketing. This study was based on a survey conducted on 100 farmers in the district.

  • Pre harvest crop yield forecast is required for storage, pricing, marketing, import, export etc. Weather is the main factor which affects crop yield. Variability in weather causes the losses in the yield. Use of weather can be done for crop production forecast. Weather plays an important role in crop growth. Therefore model based on weather parameters can be provide reliable forecast in advance for crop yield. In this study, the focus was on the development crop yield forecast (CYF) model through stepwise linear regression technique using weather variables and historic crop yield.

  • The rice-wheat cropping system, which is considered as the backbone of food selfsufficiency, is facing a sustainability problem due to practices of modern production system with indiscriminate use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. So, effects of long term use of mineral fertilizers and farmyard manure (FYM) under rice (Oryza sativa)– wheat (Triticum aestivum) cropping system in a Mollisol was investigated. Rice and wheat yields were highest (51.47 and 48.60 q ha-1 , respectively) with 100% NPK + 15 t FYM ha−1 and lowest in control (13.72 and 11.85 q ha-1 , respectively).

  • Genetic variability is prerequisite for any crop improvement program as it helps breeders in selecting the superior plants in segregating generations. Genetic variability for yield and its contributing traits in F3 and F4 generations derived from the cross WH 711 / WH 542 was assessed. The 238 F3 and F4 progenies along with parents were characterized on the basis of 12 morpho-physiological traits. The study revealed highly significant difference among the progenies for yield and its contributing traits.

The results revealed that the maintenance of moisture between 100 and 75 % available water content (W1) significantly increased the length of earhead, number of grains/earhead, 1000-grain weight, grain and straw yield as well as gluten content. The treatments W1 and W2 resulted in 22.11 and 18.
