  • This research evaluates Vietnam’s preparedness for its offshore wind energy program using the SWOT analytical method. The research found out that Vietnam has a lot of strengths and opportunities that makes an investment in offshore wind energy an economically viable option in the context of climate change. Despite the country’s effort towards meeting the requirements for the licensing and contracting of the facility, there are still some important loopholes which could delay the process.

  • This article presents a highly important and detailed techno-economic analysis of a grid-connected wind farm, considered as one of the most potential location in the south of Albania, part of Tepelena region, Mamaj village. The procedure of selection of the wind turbine type is performed by evaluating the maximum Capacity Factor (CF) among 15 different types of wind turbines applied using WAsP energy tool enabling the optimization of energy system while economic analysis uses a Monte Carlo simulation well designed on RETScreen Expert tool.

  • Since the East Vietnam Sea has an advantageous geographical location and rich natural resources, we can develop and manage islands and reefs in this region reasonably to declare national sovereignty. Based on 1096 scenes of QuikSCAT wind data of 2006–2009, wind power density at 10 m hight is calculated to evaluate wind energy resources of the East Vietnam Sea.

  • The shortage of reliable datasets and resource assessments, resource variations, and lack of marine planning are the technical challenges facing offshore wind energy development in Vietnam. This pioneering paper comprehensively addresses these challenges by first screening available datasets to select crosscalibrated multi-platform (CCMP) data and validating them with measurements. The resource is divided into four zones of 100 NM-width from the coastline. The wind energy density (WED) and capacity factor (CF) are calculated using an 8 MW reference turbine.
