High temperature during grape berry ripening impairs the quality of fruits and wines. Veraison time, which marks ripening onset, is a key factor for determining climatic conditions during berry ripening. Understanding its genetic control is crucial to successfully breed varieties more adapted to a changing climate.

The wine-making industries produce millions of tons of residues (grape pomace) after fermentation, which represents a waste management issue both ecologically and economically. After juice extraction from grape fruit, grapes pomace collectively includes stems, seeds and skins that is discarded as waste accounted for 55 – 65 per cent of the fruit. The most important variety grown in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu state is Muscat Hamburg (local name is Panner grapes), hence this variety of grapes is used in the study.

Towards a scientific interpretation of the terroir concept: Plasticity of the grape berry metabolome
The definition of the terroir concept is one of the most debated issues in oenology and viticulture. The dynamic interaction among diverse factors including the environment, the grapevine plant and the imposed viticultural techniques means that the wine produced in a given terroir is unique.

A study was conducted to know the petiole nutrient content in different grape genotypes belonging to table purpose white and coloured types along with wine grape types. Petiole nutrient contents among three different grapes types varied significantly. Petiole P, K, Mn and Zn contents among the three grape types varied in the order: table white > table coloured > wine grape. Petiole P, Ca, Mn and Cu content of wine and table purpose white type differed significantly, where as other macro and micro nutrients did not differ significantly.

A field experiment on “Qualities of wine as influenced by cane regulation and crop load of wine grape varieties grown under northern dry zone of Karnataka” was carried out during 2017-2018 at grape orchard, MHREC, UHS, Bagalkot. Among the varieties, Medika found to be superior over other varieties with respect to shoot length (80.05cm), yield (16.63 kg/vine) and total sugar (21.09%).

The study was conducted on six red wine varieties (Syrah, Caladoc, Grenache Noir, Tempranillo, Cabernet Franc and Nielluccio) at the farm of ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune. Five year old vines of these varieties were selected for the study. The grapes were harvested at about 23°Brix TSS. Anthocyanins, total phenols, tannins, reducing sugar, carbohydrate and protein were quantified in different parts of berries viz.; seed, skin and pulp. Among the different varieties, TSS and acidity showed non-significant effect while highest pH value (3.

The effects of two irrigation practices (RDI-I and RDI-II) and two bud load treatments on the yield and quality of the Kalecik Karası red wine grape variety were studied. The midday leaf water potential thresholds were used for irrigation timing, and those values were set as –10 bars until flowering, –13 bars between the berry set–veraison and the veraison–ripening periods, and –12 bars after harvest for both irrigation treatments.

People everywhere expected the new millennium to bring surprises. But the particular shock and horror that rippled through the international viticulture community in 2000 was most unexpected. It had been found that sixteen of the most highly prized varieties of wine-making grapes were the products of mating between the classic Pinot and the classically undervalued Gouais grape. This blew the proverbial cork off the industry's bottle because the Gouais was considered such an inferior specimen that there were even attempts to ban its cultivation in France during the Middle Ages.

After a long dormant period, the property was bought in 1988 by Jean-Michel Cazes and his family. From this date they completely restructured the vineyards and the technical installations. Advanced techniques are implemented in the renewed vines, but the spirit in which they are tended perpetuate ancestral traditions. Today, Chateau Villa Bel-Air produces a red and a white wine that are both typical of the terroir and their grape varieties. Furthermore, they perfectly illustrate the finesse and complexity of Graves wines....
