  • Heuristic Search is an important sub-discipline of optimization theory and finds applications in a vast variety of fields, including life science and engineering. Search methods have been useful in solving tough engineering-oriented problems that either could not be solved any other way or solutions take a very long time to be computed. This book explores a variety of applications for search methods and techniques in different fields of electrical engineering.

  • We present a new method for calculating the probability of error per symbol (Symbol Error Probability, SEP) of M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (MQAM) over a slow, flat, identically independently distributed Rician fading channels. Since fading is one of the major constraints in wireless communications, the diversity modulation technique is used for the efficient transfer of message signals.

  • In this paper we propose a method named LBMGW for selecting appropriate gateways that aims load balancing in gateways and increasing network performance. LBMG is the measure for selecting a gateway which is a combination of measures such as negative percent hop, time, and internal load in each gateway.

  • In this paper, a new energy effective routing algorithm is presented which is based on static clustering and multi-hop transmission. The SCMR (Static Clustering Based Multi-hop Routing) Algorithm is verified with MATLAB simulator. Simulation results show that the new method compared to previous methods such as LEACH, could balances the energy consumption, thus increase the stable period of network.

  • We discussed wireless LANs in chapter 14. Wireless technology is also used in cellular telephony and satellite networks. We discuss the former in this chapter as well as examples of channelization access methods (see Chapter 12). We also briefly discuss satellite networks, a technology that eventually will be linked to cellular telephony to access the Internet directly.

  • In these systems, a source node can communicate with a destination node directly or via the selected relay nodes, while relay nodes harvest energy from radio frequency for forwarding the received signal. In addition, the decode and forward (DF) protocol is applied to relay nodes, and selection combination technique is employed at the destination in order to select the best relay node. The system performance is presented by outage probability expressions over independent and identically distributed (i.i.d) Nakagami-m channel model.
