Yellow mosaic virus disease resistance
-
Screening of okra genotypes was carried out under four different environments for shoot and fruit borer, yellow vein mosaic virus disease and enation leaf curl virus disease. The genotypes responded differently to different environments against different insect-pests and diseases. None of the genotype was found free from shoot and fruit borer infection, YVMV and ELCV incidence. However the genotypes that were found with some degree of resistance might be used for future breeding programmes.

Pulses are rich and the cheapest source of delivering protein and also valuable animal feed. Indian has the largest area of about 34% and total production of about 26% of pulses globally. The present investigation was carried out with four parents in Diallel mating design during 2010-2011.

Disease score was recorded at maturity stage by counting number of infected plants in each line and the per cent disease incidence was calculated. The disease intensity was scored adopting the following 1-9 score (Singh et.al., 1988) (Table-1). On maturity 100 random plants of each entry selected and harvested separately from which the average plant yield of each entry calculated.

Field screening of 5 mungbean varieties for resistance against whitefly, induced Mungbean Yellow Mosaic Virus (MYMV) was carried out during Rabi and Kharif on 2014. Population of whitefly ranged from 3.22 to 7.69 per plant while MYMV incidence ranged from 6.00 to 39.00 per cent during Zaid 2014. Only one variety Pant Moong-1 was found to be resistant to whitefly during Zaid 2014.

Studies were conducted on the performance and morphological characterization of okra for yield and YVMV disease. None of the genotypes found complete free from YVMV infection. However, on scoring test few of them got resistant mark for YVMV like IIHR 129, IIHR-123, and IIHR 120. The characters like plant height, plant canopy, fruit yield per plant, PDI and CI have found wide variation. The character’s association revealed that the association of traits is not only due to genes but also due to the favorable impact of environment.

Mungbean is one of the most important pulse crops which is native to India. The yield of mungbean has been stagnant over years. Improvement in yield of mungbean is becoming difficult mainly due to the occurrence of pest and diseases.

Green gram and Black gram genotypes/germplasms were evaluated to identify the sources of resistance to leaf spot, powdery Mildew and mung bean yellow mosaic virus (mymv) diseases. Screening was done under natural field conditions at Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), Warangal, Telangana State, India.

Two year field screening was undertaken during Kharif season of 2011 and 2012 with eight varieties of Mungbean to ascertain its resistance against Yellow mosaic virus disease. It is evident from the pooled data that no varieties/ lines showed complete resistance to YMV disease during both the consecutive years 2011 and 2012 but it was found that the incidence of the disease varied from 36.70% to 9.12%.

A field experiment was conducted at Dryland Farm of S.V. Agricultural College, Regional Agricultural Research Station, Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Tirupati during rabi season, 2016-17. The study aimed to characterize blackgram genotypes for biochemical variability for YMV tolerance and susceptibility under yellow mosaic disease infection. In the present study, treatments consist of totally ten blackgram genotypes (5 known tolerant + 5 known susceptible).

Yellow Mosaic Virus disease (YMD) is a serious viral disease of soybean. Considering a very less attempt in studying the disease this investigation was carried out in order to arrive at the genetic basis of Yellow Mosaic Virus disease resistance of soybean. Crosses were made between highly resistant soybean varieties (DS 9712 and DS 9814) and two highly susceptible varieties (JS 335 and MAUS 609).

Okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench], is an important crop which is widely cultivated in different parts of the world mostly for human consumption and also for industrial use as fibre. The okra production in India, is hindered by occurrence viral diseases, like Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV) disease and Okra Enation Leaf Curl Virus (OELCV) disease, spread by an insect vector, namely whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Gen), which affect okra production in terms of yield and fruit quality as well.

Mungbean [Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek] is an important short duration grain legume which is grown in different parts of the country, for grain and green manure. It is an outstanding source of easily digestible proteins with low flatulence, which balances the staple rice diet in Asia. Mungbean yellow mosaic disease (MYMD) caused by whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) transmitted mungbean yellow mosaic virus (MYMV) is an important constraint of mungbean in India. Thirty five Indian mungbean genotypes were evaluated to identify the source of resistance against MYMV during kharif-2013.

Bambara groundnut (Vigna subterrenea Verdc. L) is an African pulse crop, cultivated mainly as protein source. The crop is most suitable for arid and semi-arid tropics and tolerant to saline soils. Low Productivity of pulses in the country is attributed to many biotic stresses which are ranging from plant ideotype to biotic and abiotic stresses. Among the various diseases, yellow mosaic virus (YMV) disease in pulses and also causes yield losses in Bambara groundnut.
