Yellow vein virus
-
Screening of okra genotypes was carried out under four different environments for shoot and fruit borer, yellow vein mosaic virus disease and enation leaf curl virus disease. The genotypes responded differently to different environments against different insect-pests and diseases. None of the genotype was found free from shoot and fruit borer infection, YVMV and ELCV incidence. However the genotypes that were found with some degree of resistance might be used for future breeding programmes.

This infection is observed during October month in these volunteer plants continuously for the two years (2019 & 2020). The population of the vector whitefly is also observed in the Malvastrum coromandelianum and Sida acuta, this may facilitate for the transmission of the virus and Eventhough, with vector population, these species alone being observed with infection with this specific virus remaining weeds are not infected hence this may be host specific. Hence Malvastrum coromandelianum is documented as highly susceptible to this specific virus and needs research on infecting to the crops.

The productivity of sugar beet is strongly limited by several biotic stresses, among them rhizomania is one of the important factor causing yield loss of 20–50% or more. Beet necrotic yellow vein virus is the etiological agent of the destructive disease.

Studies were conducted on the performance and morphological characterization of okra for yield and YVMV disease. None of the genotypes found complete free from YVMV infection. However, on scoring test few of them got resistant mark for YVMV like IIHR 129, IIHR-123, and IIHR 120. The characters like plant height, plant canopy, fruit yield per plant, PDI and CI have found wide variation. The character’s association revealed that the association of traits is not only due to genes but also due to the favorable impact of environment.

In the present cytopathological study, phloem cells of diseased mid-vein retained the Azure A stain indicating the presence of foreign deoxy-ribo-nucleoprotein in comparison to healthy one. Inclusion bodies were found associated with the nucleus of diseased mid-vein phloem cells.

Field experiments were conducted during Kharif 2016 and 2017 to manage yellow vein mosaic virus in Okra with seven modules along with one control. The module consists of use of either seed treatment or yellow sticky trap singly or in combination with neem oil (bio-pesticide), one insect growth regulator and two new generation insecticides to manage the vector population of whitefly which transmit the disease.

Survey of Sathgudi sweet orange was done in the Nagri village of Chittor district in the A.P. state during November, 2006. Incidence of citrus yellow mosaic disease was observed up to 50% in citrus plants. A few plants also showed unusual symptoms of vein clearing and mosaic. Bacilliform and flexous rod shaped of virus particles were seen in electron microscopy in samples of the diseased citrus plants showing vein clearing and mosaic.

Experiment under field condition was conducted to test the effect of insecticides against whiteflies checking the incidence of yellow vein mosaic virus (YVMV) on okra at Indian Agriculture Research Institute, Regional Station, College of Agriculture, Pune. The present study conducted in randomized block design with eight treatments. The seven insecticides were evaluated against whiteflies checking the yellow vein mosaic virus (YVMV) incidence .The observations on whiteflies mortality and incidence of YVMV incidence recorded at 3, 7 and 14 days after each spray.

This study was undertaken to find out the potential source of resistance of okra to yellow vein mosaic virus under natural epiphytic condition. The experiment was conducted with ten genotypes/cultivars at Main Vegetable Research Station and Department of Biochemistry, B.A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Out of ten genotypes/cultivars GAO-5 was registered with the higher of peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase activities and minimum number of whitefly population at 35 and 60 days after germination (DAS) as compared to rest of all genotypes.

Okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench], is an important crop which is widely cultivated in different parts of the world mostly for human consumption and also for industrial use as fibre. The okra production in India, is hindered by occurrence viral diseases, like Yellow Vein Mosaic Virus (YVMV) disease and Okra Enation Leaf Curl Virus (OELCV) disease, spread by an insect vector, namely whitefly (Bemisia tabaci Gen), which affect okra production in terms of yield and fruit quality as well.

Field surveys were conducted for collection of CMV virus isolates in bell pepper depicting a wide range of symptoms ranging from mosaic, mottling, yellow discoloration, vein clearing, leaf deformation, shoe stringing or leaf narrowing, stunted growth to reduced fruit size. In an attempt to correlate the symptoms with virus concentration in different isolates, DAS-ELISA was performed on symptomatic plants and CMV was detected in majority of the isolates. It was observed that the plants with shoe stringing (typical symptom of CMV in bell pepper) had the highest O.D.

Genetic variability analysis on 29 genotypes of okra revealed high magnitude of genetic variability and high degree of transmission of majority of the growth, earliness and yield associated traits under study. High magnitude of genotypic coefficient of variation (>20%) for number of marketable fruits per plant, marketable yield per plant and yellow vein mosaic virus infestation indicated high degree of genetic variability offering great scope for selection of these characters.

Okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L.), locally known as Bhendi or ladies finger, is one of the most important vegetable crop grown in AP in all the seasons. Presently okra is grown in an area of twenty three thousand hectares and production is estimated at about 4.39 metric tonnes. The major problem in okra is yellow vein mosaic virus. The main area is occupied by hybrids from private sector. Different cultivars require different climatic condition and the performance of these entries depend on their adoptability to a particular climate and soil conditions.

Rhizomania is an important virus disease of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) caused by Beet necrotic yellow vein virus (BNYVV). The virus is transmitted to the roots of host plants by the plasmodiophorid Polymyxa betae. During survey studies in September and October 2009.
