The present investigation was carried out during rabi, in the year 2016-17. Thirty (30) genotypes of Chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) were studied for Nineteen (19) traits using Randomized Block Design with three replications. There are significant differences were observed among the genotypes, except number of flowers per axil.

To identify the best source of nitrogen among organic and inorganic sources and their combinations for better growth, flowering behaviour and fruit yield of chilli cv. Bulet, an experiment was conducted in Gangetic Alluvial plain of West Bengal. Six organic manures in different combinations were applied along with Urea at three levels (25%, 50%, and 75). Result showed that plant height and number of branches per plant was found maximum with a combination of vermicompost and urea at 50%. Flowering was delayed with increase in inorganic nitrogen level (25, 50 and 75%) in the growing media.

Genetic variability, heritability and genetic advance as percent of mean for 12 characters were assessed by field evalution observed for all the characters considered for the study. The analysis of variance indicated presence of significant variability among the genotypes for all the characters. Moderate GCV and higher PCV values indicated presence of substantial genetic variability and less environmental influence for average dry fruit weight, dry fruit yield per plant, and capsaicin content.

Eleven genotypes of chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) were investigated to understand the extent of genetic diversity through 16 growth and yield attributing characters. Genetic diversity in chilli genotypes based on sixteen characters was estimated using Mahalanobis’s D2 statistics. The genotypes were grouped into four different clusters by non-hierarchical clustering. The cluster I had the maximum number (7) of genotypes while cluster III and IV each contained only one genotype. Cluster II and III had highest inter cluster distance (249.759) followed by cluster III and IV (239.433).

A field experiment was undertaken in the farmer’s field at Agadi village (Tq., Hubbli) in Dharwad district Karnataka India to investigate the relationship between index leaf nutrient concentration, yield and quality of Byadgi chilli influenced by calcium nitrate foliar spray. Two different concentration of calcium nitrate was foliar sprayed at different stages of chilli crop (1.0 and 1.5% Ca(NO3)2 and the experimental plot was laid out in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with twelve treatments and three replications.

Results revealed that, among the different treatments, the combination of Azospirillum + PSB + VAM + KSB + 50% RDF + MgSO4 + Micronutrient mixture stimulated better response in terms of growth yield and quality attributes of chilli (T12). The maximum plant height (88.61 cm), number of primary and secondary braches per plant (11.22 and 18.44, respectively), number of leaves (298.87), leaf area of plant (10578.

Chilli leaf curl disease is a serious threat to summer crop of chilli in South India causing economic yield losses. Therefore, development of chilli hybrids having leaf curl tolerance and high yield is the present need in chilli growing regions. Seven high yielding lines were crosses with four resistant testers in line × tester mating design to produce 28 F1 hybrids. Highest heterosis over better parent was exhibited by the cross L6 × T4 for fruit length (74.71%), by L4 × T3 for fruit girth (37.58%), by L6 × T1 for fruits plant-1 (37.86%), by L1 × T2 for fruit weight (51.

Chilli is an economically important and widely cultivated crop of India. Chilli leaf curl disease complex is one of the major limiting factors in chilli production which is drastically decrease yield. The crop grown in Jharkhand usually suffers seriously from this disease. A field experiment on integration of insecticides as soil application with one and/or two sprayings each of other insecticides viz. Imidacloprid 17.8% SL @ 0.003%, Spinosad 45 % SC@160 ml/ha and neem products viz., Neem Seed Kernel extract (NSKE 5%) @ 5ml/ litre and Neem oil 0.
