Yield forecast of rice crop

An experiment was conducted during kharif 2015 and 2016 at Agro met Research Farm of NDUAT as to basis the yield forecast Yield Forecast of rice crop in Eastern U.P. using simulation Model. The genetic coefficients were determined by the Decision Support System for Agro Technology Transfer (DSSAT) model using the identical management and other conditions as in the field experiment for three varieties of rice (Sarooj-52, NDR-359 and Swarna).

In the Gujarat State, rice occupies about 7 to 8 per cent of the gross cropped area and accounts for about 14.00 per cent of the total food grain production. Pre harvest forecast may provide useful information to agriculturalists, administration offices and merchants. In the current study statistical crop modeling was engaged to provide forecast in advance harvesting for taking timely pronouncements. In this paper Multiple Linear Regression (MLR) Technique and Discriminant function analysis were derived for estimating average rice production for the district of Surat in south Gujarat.

Crop acreage estimation and crop yield forecasting are two components, which are crucial for proper planning and policy making in the agriculture sector of the country. This research is a study model of forecasting area, production and productivity of rice in Thanjavur district as it is a “Rice bowl of Tamil Nadu”. Data for the period of 1990-91 to 2014-15 were analyzed by time series methods.
