Production of marigold can be improved to a large extent by the judicious cultural operations i.e. application of optimum fertilizer at required time, crop management practices and use of plant growth regulators. Hence, an experiment was carried out in the Research Farm of Adhiparasakthi Horticultural College, Kalavai, during 2018-19 to find out the effect of plant growth regulators (NAA, GA3) and growth retardants (Maleic hydrazide, Alar) on growth and yield of African marigold var. Pusa Narangi Gainda.

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of NAA, BA and Kinetin on growth of African marigold during rabi season of 2009-10. The trial was conducted in a completely randomized block design with ten treatments in three replications. The treatments comprised of three level each of NAA (100, 200, 300 ppm), BA (25, 50, 75 ppm) and kinetin (50, 100, 150 ppm) thus, making 10 treatments including absolute control.

A field trail was conducted to study the effect of different levels of growth promoters and retardants on growth and flower yield of different cultivars of African marigold. Two PGR’s namely Gibberellins (GA3) and Cycocel (CCC) were taken as growth promoter and growth retardant, respectively. Two cultivars namely Pusa Narangi Gainda and Pusa Basanti Gainda were taken to evaluate their suitability in Chhattisgarh. The result indicated that the growth and flower yield were significantly influenced by different plant growth regulators and cultivars.

An field experiment was conducted to study the effect of planting dates and pinching levels on growth, flowering in African marigold cv. Arkaagni under open condition. The experiment was laid out with twelve treatment combinations at College of Horticulture, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad during 2017 - 2018, with four planting dates and three levels of pinching. 2nd fortnight of October planting resulted in more plant spread, primary and secondary branches per plant and also increased several floral characters like flower diameter, number and weight of flowers per plant and yield per hectare.

African marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) is a herbaceous annual flowering plant belonging to family Asteraceae. Apart from its popular use in landscape gardening and garland making, it is now gaining popularity as a natural source of food colour. It is found in different colour shades of yellow and orange with different fragrance. A study was conducted in summer rice fallows of Wayanad during 2016-17 to evaluate the performance of 3 hybrids of marigold based on vegetative, flowering and yield characters.

Local selection. There were six levels of pinchings i.e. No pinching, 7 DAT (days after transplanting), 14 DAT, 21 DAT, 28 DAT and 35 DAT). A uniform dose of nitrogen @ 20 g/m2 , phosphorus @ 10 g/m2, potassium @ 10 g/m2 and 10 kg FYM per plot (1.2 m x 1.2 m) was applied. For statistical analysis factorial randomized block design was used with three replications.
