The results indicated that neither the genotype nor fertilisation had any significant effects on the grain yield of the pigeonpea genotypes. The total dry matter yield was significantly influenced by both genotype and fertilisation with the genotype ICPL 88034 significantly producing.

Pulses are an important source of high quality protein complementing cereal proteins for pre-dominantly substantial vegetarian population of the country. Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Mill sp.) is the second most important pulse crop of India after chickpea and is grown for it’s grain as dhal and green seed as a vegetable. A field experiment was conducted at College of Agriculture, Vishweshwaraiah Canal Farm, Mandya during kharif 2017 to study the effect of foliar application of calcium nitrate, boron and humic acid on growth and yield of transplanted pigeonpea.

Correlation studies would provide estimates of degree of association between grain yield and its various components and also among the components. While, path co-efficient analysis further elucidates the intrinsic nature of association of component traits by determining direct or indirect contribution of these traits to yield (Baldaniya et al, 2018).

India has virtual monopoly in pigeonpea production accounting to 90% of world’s total production but the average productivity is relatively low due to terminal moisture stress and the production is not adequate to meet the demand of increasing population. To meet the said demand pigeon pea productivity has to be increased. There is a need for judicious management of available water and plant nutrients through different fertilizers to increase the productivity and to reduce the production costs of pigeonpea.

In this study, the mycoflora present in the rhizosphere of four crops viz. rice, Sorghum, pigeonpea and urdbean were identified under controlled environmental conditions with the aim to know the host-specificity of mycoflora and to enrich the specific groups of bioagents. These potential microbes will be helpful in finding out good alternative to sustain the crop yield without having chemical residues in food.

In general, the phosphorus use efficiency is less as only 30 % of the applied phosphorus is taken by plants in its entire growing season and phosphorus recovery efficiency of applied fertilizers in soil by the crop plant is less than 20 % (Fageria et al., 2011). Intercropping system is one of the best strategies to improve PUE (Hasan et al., 2016).

Spodoptera litura (Noctuidae: Lepidoptera) is a notorious leaf damaging pest in Tamil Nadu in pigeonpea and responsible for considerable yield loss. A new biological insecticide spinetoram 12 SC was evaluated for effect on S. litura on pigeonpea at field conditions during 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 kharif seasons.

Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.) is one of the major pulse crop of tropics and sub tropics, cultivated by small and marginal farmers under rainfed condition. It is known to be affected by many fungal diseases among them dry root rot caused by Rhizoctonia bataticola (Taub.) Butler, is a major soil borne disease causing considerable yield loss in most of the pigeonpea growing regions of India more so in the North-Eastern Karnataka.

Twenty seven pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp.] hybrids were developed by hand pollination using three CMS lines (A lines) and nine testers (R lines). These hybrids along with their parents and two standard checks (VL Arhar1 and ICPL 161) were evaluated in a randomized block design with three replications during kharif 2016-17 for the heterosis studies.

An experiment was conducted during kharif seasons of year 2018-19 and 2019-20 on medium black calcareous clayey soil at Junagadh (Gujarat) to study crop intensification and diversification through groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) + sweet corn (Zea mays var. saccharata) intercropping system. The groundnut (cv. GG-20) was mix/intercropped with sweet corn (cv. Sugar-75) and pigeonpea (cv. GJP-1).

The cultivated pigeon pea (Cajanus cajan) is one of the most important source of protein for worlds marginal and vegetarian population. Sterility mosaic disease (SMD) also known as “green plague of pigeonpea” is one of the severe threats in pigeon pea production causing severe yield loss. Keeping this in view, identification of SMD resistant cultivars with better understanding of inheritance of disease were key consideration for the present study. RILs were screened for SMD resistance with leaf stapling technique at Green house, IBT, PJTSAU during Kharif 2012 and 2013.

Thirty CGMS-based pigeonpea [Cajanus cajan (L.) Millspaugh] hybrids were synthesized by crossing six CMS lines with five ‘R’ lines and evaluated to study yield potential with the performance of their R-lines. Result indicated that the male sterile lines exhibited 100 per cent pollen sterility and R- line acts as good restorer and pollen fertility varied from 98 to 100 per cent. All crosses exhibited pollen fertility ranged from 92 to 100 per cent.
