A field experiment was conducted during pre kharif (summer) season of 2018 to study the effects of terminal bud and priming of seeds with different chemicals in Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) for growth, yield and seed quality parameters. The harvested seeds under different combination pinching and seed priming were studied for different seed quality parameters. The seed priming chemicals were considered in main plots and pinching of terminal buds was considered in sub plots.

Sesamum (Sesamum indicum L) is the most cultivated oil crop in India. It has great diversity across the Indian biota. The existing variability would be utilized for the commercial purpose of sesame. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the morphological characterization and variability available in the sesame genotypes available in Tamil Nadu. Fifteen sesame genotypes were grown during Rabi Summer 2018 at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Kudumiyanmalai (TNAU) for the estimation of genotypic and phenotypic coefficient of variation along with heritability and genetic advance.

Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) is one of the most ancient oil seed crop cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical countries. Irrespective of the agro-climate conditions, sesame is liable to be infected by various pathogenic fungi. Among the fungal diseases, stem and root rot of sesame caused by Macrophomina phaseolina affects severely at all stages of crop growth. Macrophomina phaseolina is a diverse, omnipresent soil borne pathogen. The pathogen survives as sclerotia in the soil and in host tissue for varying periods.
