Herein, environmentally benign chitin nanofiber (ChNF) membranes were fabricated by regulating suspension behavior. The introduction of zeolitic imidazole frameworks (ZIF-8) into the composite membranes led to the domain formation of ChNF derived by coordinative interaction, resulting in pore size-tunable membranes.

Tubular zeolite BEA membrane was prepared by a hydrothermal secondary growth method in the absence of an organic structure directing agent (OSDA). Membrane formation process was carefully observed by using FE-SEM, XRD, and N2 adsorption, and the role of seed crystals on the support surface was discussed.

Ultra-thin MFI zeolite membranes with different Si/Al ratios (152, 47 and 26) were prepared on graded αalumina supports in the presence of organic template molecules and evaluated for separation of equimolar CO2/ CH4 mixtures at temperatures from 315 to 249 K.

Two main types of morphological features resulting in surface roughness were observed on alumina discs used as supports for zeolite membranes. These features can be described as hills and pits and it was shown that defects as cracks formed in the zeolite film at these locations of the support.

The adsorption and mass transport of CO2 and CH4 in CHA zeolite were studied experimentally. First, large and well-defined CHA crystals with varying Si/Al ratios and morphologies ideal for adsorption studies were prepared. Then, adsorption isotherms were measured, and adsorption parameters were estimated from the data.

Zeolite-polymer mixed matrix membranes were prepared by filling polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) with clinoptilolite in various cationic forms of K, Mg, H, and Na. The membranes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy as well as measurements of O2, N2, and CO2 gas permeabilities. The results indicated the presence of an optimum zeolite loading in the mixed matrix membranes maximizing permeability.

The semiconductor industry needs low dielectric constant (low k-value) materials to more advance microprocessor and chips by reducing the size of the device features. In fabricate this context, a new material with lower k value than conventional silica ( k = 3.9 - 4.2 ) is needed in order to improve the circuit performance. As per the recent International Semiconductor Technology plan, a low-k material with a k = 1.6 will be needed by 2010. The choice of the inorganic zeolite membrane is an attractive option for low k material and suitable for microprocess applicatio.
