This study aims to generate the system of histone deacetylase enzymes (HDAC) with its cofactor zinc ion using two different parameter models and application of molecular dynamic (MD) study for structure of HDAC2 and vorinostat ligand. Materials and methods: Two non-bonded models, including 12-6-4 Lennard-Jones and cationic dummy atom, were applied for building a solvation system of HDAC2 crystal structure with presence of suber-anilohydroxamic acid (SAHA) and zinc ion.

As an essential element, selenium is present in enzymes from several families, including glutathione peroxidases, and is thought to exert anticarcinogenic properties. A remarkable feature of selenium consists of its ability to oxidize thiols under reducing conditions. Thus, one mode of action recently suggested is the oxidation of thiol groups of metal-lothionein, thereby providing zinc for essential reactions.

We utilized plasmon-waveguide resonance (PWR) spectroscopy to follow the effects of sphingomyelin, cholesterol and zinc ions on the binding and aggregation of the amyloidbpeptide1)40 in lipid bilayers. With a dioleoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DOPC) bilayer, peptide binding was observed, but no aggregation occurred over a period of 15 h.

Matrix metalloprotease-2 is implicated in many biological processes and degrades extracellular and non-extracellular matrix molecules. Matrix metalloprotease-2 maintains a latent state through a cysteine–zinc ion pairing which, when disrupted, results in full enzyme activation. This pairing can be disrupted by a conformational change or cleavage within the propeptide.
