Most vector-borne pathogens cause zoonotic diseases. These zoonoses often have wild animal reservoirs that play a significant role in disease epidemiology. However, pet animals have also been implicated in transmission of zoonotic agents to humans. To exemplify, dogs are competent reservoir hosts for several zoonotic vector-borne bacteria and protozoa.

Coxiella burnetii is a Gram-negative gammaproteobacterium and zoonotic agent of Q fever. C. burnetii’s genome contains an abundance of pseudogenes and numerous selfish genetic elements. MITEs (miniature invertedrepeat transposable elements) are non-autonomous transposons that occur in all domains of life and are thought to be insertion sequences (ISs) that have lost their transposase function. Like most transposable elements (TEs), MITEs are thought to play an active role in evolution by altering gene function and expression through insertion and deletion activities.

Outbreak of brucellosis has been recorded in sheep flocks in Udaipur district of Rajasthan, India. Total 15 abortions were recorded in two flocks of 115 sheep. Samples from aborted fetus, retained placenta colostrum and sera samples were collected. Sera samples were tested by Rose Bengal plate agglutination test. Culture and isolation were done on selective media.

Contagious ecthyma is one of the most important viral diseases of goats with zoonotic implications and causes economic losses to the farmers. The present study was undertaken to investigate the Contagious ecthyma infections in goats during the month of September and October 2017 in different places of Dharmapuri district. The goats were affected irrespective of their age group and sex.

A number of old and new pathogen has emerged or re-emerged in past 30 years. Increase in interaction at the interface of human and animals plays a crucial role in transmission of these zoonotic agents at the interface. Burgeoning human population, increased global communication, habitat destruction, bush meat consumption, intensification of animal farming. Along with emergence of antimicrobial resistance and increased incidence food borne infections are important public health implications in which human-animal interface plays a definite role.
