It has long been accepted that bacterial quinol-fumarate reductase (QFR)generally uses a low-redox-potential naphthoquinone, menaquinone (MK), as the electron donor, whereas mitochondrial QFR from facultative and anaerobic eukaryotes uses a low-redox-potential benzoqui-none, rhodoquinone (RQ), as the substrate.
