Quinolinic acid (QUIN) excitotoxicity is mediated by elevated intracellular Ca 2+ levels, and nitric oxide-mediated oxidative stress, resulting in DNA damage, poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) activation, NAD + deple-tion and cell death.
