This has been veri- fied by access statistics from several of Retrovirology's already frequently cited papers (Fig. 1) [2-7]. Finally, my impression is that Open Access has helped Retrovirology achieve rapid name recognition and a respectable prelim- inary Impact Factor number of nearly 3 (i.e. 2.98) just after our very first year of publishing. Retrovirology's cur- rent impact factor compares very favorably with those of Virology and Journal of General Virology (Fig. 2). An impact factor of 3 at age 2 is a good start for Retrovirol- ogy.
