Several American generals in World War II were more successful than Dwight Eisenhower. 3. James was amazed at being turned down for the job owing to the fact that he was overqualified. A. N ot being hired for the job because he had too many qualifications came as a shock to James. B. James believes that the reason why he was rejected for the job was his having too many qualifications. C. James felt that he did not get the job because the boss was intimidated by his qualifications. D. James had thought he was qualified enough for the job and so was disappointed at being turned down. 4. Though he's never been an interesting person, last night he was more boring than ever. A. As he was so amazingly dull last night, he will no longer be seen as an interesting person. B. He's known to be quite boring, but last night he was the most dull that he ever has been. C. Although he's not usually that interesting, last night he was actually extremely boring. D. The boring subjects he spoke about last night shows that he will never manage to be an interesting person. 5. Considering that we travelled right across the country, the bus ticket was surprisingly reasonable. A. Because we were able to move right through the country, the price of the bus ticket didn't bother us. B. The ticket for the bus, which took us from one side of the country to the other, was the cheapest that we could find.

The United States has changed so much that it no longer resembles the nation that became independent in 1776. A. Since gaining its independence in 1776, the United States has gone through many great changes. B. The United States is now extremely different from the nation which gained its dependence in 1776. C. The United States has altered so radically that it is difficult to believe that it has only been independent since 1776. D. Although it only became independent in 1776, the United States has already undergone many great changes. 8. It's going to be extremely difficult for me to get 100% on the test, isn't it? A. I think it will be tremendously hard for me to get a full score in the test, don't you? B. Do you think I'll be able to get a 100% score on this extremely difficult test? C. Is it always going to be so incredibly hard for me to take full marks in the test? D. I think this is going to be the hardest test for me to take a score of 100% in, isn't it? 9. The extreme heat of the Indian plains in the summer decreases as you move toward the mountains. B. The heat in the plains of Idia, in the summer, is less intensive than the heat you will find in the mountains. C. The intensity of Idian summer heat depends on whether you are in the plains or in the mountains. D. The extreme heat of the summer in Idia becomes proportionately cooler as you go up into the mountains from the plains.
